Today at PMQ's: 12:25 Andrew Jones (Con) says he wants people to be able to go about their lives without being hindered by protesters. Will the police bill strike that balance?

I wonder how many of Jones' Harrogate & Knaresborough constituents have been inconvenienced by protesters?

In fact, I wonder how many people have actually been inconvenienced by protesters at all? And how about more than mildly?

This is disgusting. Appealing to peoples paranoid nature and making the protestor the villain rather than the hero, aware of what is happing in Myanmar at this very moment.
Turning us on ourselves.

Of course what is does mean the likes of Tony Blair no longer have to worry about "stop the war coalition" ever again...

Surely it cannot be this simple, I mean, would the non-tory MP's REALLY keep schtum about this kind of bill if it was as bad as it sounds?

yes

this isn’t a new development either - don’t forget, 280 of their (Tory) predecessors looked at Chamberlain after the Norway Debate and thought “that’s the leader we need in this war”. They’d got wide support across the country too.

Was disappointing Starmer only moved from official position of abstain to against after shameful police action against women on Saturday. Its suits all governments not to have protests.

Again it was the good law project that has been the only real opposition to this bill. Much like it has been throughout the secret Conservatives VIP access channel for government contracts, in other words "cronyism".

Also reckon a few heads on our side need to hang their heads in shame also when it comes to their attitude to protests they didn’t agree with mainly them loons on about micro chips.

Doesn’t matter how loony the protest we all should have the right to take to the streets to say we aren’t happy not just ones that our in sync with our political beliefs

I can't help but think, if Starmer embraced this, it would be a vote winner

Hhhmmmm not so sure. "Protesting" spreading vile untruths that lead to deaths during a pandemic is not so clear cut imo

Seriously, this bill is one of the scariest things that’s been passed in this country in a long, long time. Priti Patel now pretty much gets Carte-Blanche to dictate what protests are “unlawful” and have people locked up for up to 10 years (which, by the way, is potentially a longer sentence than rape given the starting sentence for that is 5 years)

This has a real dictatorial air to it, especially alongside Nuclear rearmament. Feels like we’re straying towards the Britain from V for Vendetta honestly.

Also, it's not bad that people are inconvenienced by protestors, or by strikes, it's mad to suggest people shouldn't be the absolute tool
