Natural consequence of free market looking after itself and governments absolving itself from interventions. Enjoy...

Maybe have a look at the report. It states that the biggest cause of dissatisfaction is partisanship that prevents parties from working effectively against societal problems.

"The Iraq War and parliamentary expenses scandal caused dips, but satisfaction plunged during the political stalemate following the EU Referendum. "

“If confidence in democracy has been slipping, it is because democratic institutions have been seen failing to address some of the major crises of our era, from economic crashes to the threat of global warming. To restore democratic legitimacy, that must change.”

My last comment was my conclusion from reading the report, my apologies it does fit into YOUR partisan view...

All the dips and current malaise are under the same economic model the free market is the best, blah blah.

Partisanship flourishes when there is space for it to do so, when lots of people become unhappy for some reason, economic pressures are always a good bet, it's a tried and tested method.

Those with their hands on wheels of power need to start addressing causes not analysing and navel gazing events.

I think you're missing the point. The study found that they simply need to stop lying and stop squabbling among themselves so they can actually get things done. That's it. Do that and people are generally okay with democracy. It's not a case of happiness = prescribing to a particular political point of view, it's more happiness = government functioning properly.

Government is functioning properly, the free market will step in and cater for needs. I mean it's done a wonderful job in building houses for everyone who wants one. Houses are affordable rents are affordable. Road networks are uncongested, getting on the hour health appointment etc. People are just so ungrateful of the free market. ;)

Thing is, folk will agree with that statement without any sense of irony...
