What was the 'good heckle' Starmer mentioned?
Parts of that are why she's on a hiding to nothing, standing up and saying "everything is broken" was fine for Starmer after over a decade of Tory mismanagement, but insane for someone who was a Government minister herself just 6 months ago. Plays into Farage's hands too as he'll just go on his own TV show, play the clip and say "She's right but also to blame, vote Reform for a real change" etc.
I think one of the problems Corbyn-era Labour had was that in the immediate wake of Brexit, sometimes it was hard to even view Labour as the opposition as May's various attempts to work out a deal were repeatedly fumbled and precious little else of note was happening. You'd often get Government plans drawn up and then instead of cutting to a Labour Shadow Minister the media would rush off to find the nearest ERG spokesperson for their take.
I wonder if the Tories are going to find something similar happening under Badenoch's watch. Their front bench are so lightweight that even thought there isn't a Brexit wrangle to occupy Starmer's majority, it doesn't really feel like anyone wants to hear from any of them (and instead want to just cut to Farage's take on the latest immigration plans).
It is concerning because a Tory party that can't carve out a niche pave the way for something worse on the Right.
