I saw him play for a season when he started out for Cheltenham town,think they were conference then.he did ok for them and scored plenty .it probably shows the gulf of class between the divisions the higher you go,they sold him to Derby County who as I remember were first division,didn't do well,so perhaps the clue was there all along.

He was good for County in what was then Division 2. I didn't see them a lot when they were in Division 1, but I don't recall him screwing up that much

Carlton Palmer did eventually join though and he was worse than every other Stockport County combined throughout history (And that includes Micky Quinn!) so it may have made me forget if Brett went rubbish again
