The bookies front runners to replace Silva

But unfortunately you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you reach prince charming.

We have tried several managers where we were hoping that the best part of their career lay in front of them rather than behind them and it just hasn't worked.

I would like to get in an experienced manager with a track record managing big clubs and winning trophies, get us established in the top six and then we would be in a better position to attract the better young managers.
We have spent so much money sacking Martinez, hiring Koeman, sacking Koeman, hiring Allyrdyce, sacking Allyrdyce and so far hiring Silva...we could afford Mourinho,Wenger and Benitez as joint managers.

It's a fair point. No guarantees either way though obviously.

If I had to choose one from that list it would be either Moyes or Rafael (never thought I'd ever utter that). Either would be massively better than the current occupant.
I'd be impressed if the club tried for Marcelino though.

I’m not sure where this comment should go, my apologies.

Silva, Brands, Morsh or whomever it is that this weeks blame game is directed at, it comes down to the players themselves.

Are we where we should be? No, not debatable.

In my opinion it’s about player character.

Drive, passion and ambition are the boxes I’d like to see checked above all else.

Yeah, yeah some smart ass on here will mention that I left out skill.

The manger does play a part but that’s just it, a part.

You need the right players.

This overhaul or rebuilding was and is going to be a process.

Digne, Mina, Richarlson, Delph and even Bernard are not final answer but there seems to be similar type of character traits being cultivated.

Which I like.

Just my two cents and my humble attempt to not add to the doom and gloom swallowing this place up.

Agree the players need to be professional, they are their own people and no matter what the manager does or stays thy have to step up.

The first choice CMs are missing and players Silva wanted didn't get landed, who'd have thought that would lead to some disappointing results?

I do think we need a big personality, to dominate the players almost.

We always seem to reach a point of malaise, where the timid performance on the pitch is mirrored by the manager on the sideline.

I think both elements of that can feed off each other to an extent.

In part, the cult worship of Brands has arisen due to the rather dull persona exuded by Silva.

There just always seems to be an underlying mix of fear and/or apathy in our recent managers.

A bit more gusto and more truthfulness wouldn't go amiss, particularly in a difficult patch.

It can't be all just one thing, all matey or all authority...plenty of players these days get a cob on and sulk with a disciplinarian. It has to be about brains and charisma, handling each player as a person and tailoring the approach to each.

If we're hoping for a Clough with mega charisma to ride over all the players it's a very long shot.

I agree, it's just the sense of drift on the pitch a lot of the time that has me screaming at the TV and hoping the manager will scream as well.

It isn't about histrionics, but I do think we could benefit with having someone self-assured and passionate.

Give me Conte or Simeone any day (I wish). They kick every ball with their teams. I think it is marvellous to behold as a fan.

I look at that list and think

I still go with Arteta and Cahill, both know the league, the club and the supporters, both loved by the supporters. I would give them a 2 year contract and although I would not expect them to win anything straight away, if they started to take the club in the right direction then extend their contracts. I know they lack managerial experience but Arteta must have learned a lot from Pep.
