and that’s very reasonable but it’s also a bit like not being worried about your heart condition , clinical obesity and diabetes because you’re diagnosed with cancer . It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have eaten better , stopped smoking and exercised just because something else gets you in the end
You're not taking into account the fact that I don't necessarily believe that Brexit is going to be the unmitigated disaster that most people on here do. Despite the governments best efforts to make it so.

Brexit doesn't give me anywhere near the concerns for our economy than this virus does. It really scares me.

Is it the health perspective or the economic impact that scares you the most?

Economically imo it’ll be a relatively short shock, what the lasting impacts are from a societal perspective I’m not sure.

What I am convinced of though, is that our Govt will be extremely reluctant to follow the Italy path of lockdown, as quite simply our society wouldn’t withstand it, as the majority of the population has little or no savings and a period with no pay or the woefully inadequate SSP isn’t something they could sustain.

It’s now costing us 2% PER YEAR.

So the economy is 2% SMALLER ANNUALLY than it would have been.

The loss of the 2% doesn’t suddenly disappear by magic at the end of the year, it continues to be the case in the following year...........

Maybe you skipped some maths lessons mate.
If he meant to say GDP is 2% smaller annually, why didn't he just say that. As a journalist he knows that could only be construed one way.

This isn't about maths. It's about using purposely vague language with the intention of misleading people.

And my maths is pretty good thanks.

There was nothing wrong with what he wrote though, the economy is 2% worse off a year than it would have been.

Your maths example on the previous page suggests otherwise btw.

I see that the UK has opted out of the UPC (universal patent court) system for patents. Very strange as they now will have to go back to the old regime of registering a patent in each country BV rather than just once. And the UK were going to be granted one of the Courts. Again, no proper reason for this as far as I can see.

Reading an article dealing with the owner of Wetherspoons and Darling of Brexit Tim Martin , looks like he’s allowing the government to pay his staff the 80% and not making up the other 20% . Class act .

I know a lot of small business in this position that aren’t worth £40m struggling to keep their wages topped up and doing their very best to honour commitments, whilst a lot of big Retail companies are paying Full wages even for staff who’ve just started .

If it’s correct then I’d suggest it tells you a lot about the bloke in my opinion . I’ll happily withdraw the comment if I discover he’s making up the other 20% .

Come on mate. You are better than this. There are remain supporters behaving no differently. Richard Branson for example.

Let's leave the points scoring behind for a while.

I am .

Branson is another scumbag And I ranted about him the other day . I’m just incredibly angry about these rats with millions in the bank scrimping and saving whilst decent people Bend over backwards to protect the staff .

Martin is a deeply unpleasant individual and it irritated me , particularly as he’s spent the last couple of years prattling on about how we’re strong when we stick together and look after our own . It’s a mentality I hate , I should however have simply left it at venting at him .

That's my point mate. You didn't refer to him as a champion of remain whilst slagging him off.

Bottom line is they are both rich entitled people who could easily afford to be doing a lot more to help out in the current crisis. Which side of Brexit they were on is totally irrelevant. Had you made that post in the virus thread without mentioning Brexit I'd have liked it.
