The Baines / Oviedo Situation

Baines is far and away the best full back in the league, however in martinez's system coleman is the better player. As I see it Oviedo is closer to being like Coleman in his play (doesn't rely on the midfielder in front of him to get forward). I think baines will be moved up into midfield (he seems to be drifting inside a lot more in recent weeks?) and oviedo will play LB and I think that is the best option for the team if Baines is able to adapt to that role.

Depends on Garbutt as well, if baines moves to the centre mid slot or oviedo to left mid is garbutt a good enough understudy?

Probably because Baines is our best player, even when he's not playing his best he is still quality most weeks.

Have you watched Martins Indi much mate? I doubt it, hes not that great imo.

Baines wont fetch anywhere near his worth to us anyway, not like a team will pay £20m+ at his age.
Yeah watched him for Netherlands and feyenord, suits rm's philosophy quite a bit, and great physical attributes

I'm not a huge fan of what Pep has done with Lahm as he's an excellent CDM, but arguably the best RB in the world. Crucially, Rafinha is pretty meh whereas their other CDMs are pretty damn brilliant.

In this situation though, I'd be curious to see what it'd be like. Oviedo was exceptional at LB and Baines has all the tools to be a top midfielder. Unlike Lahm he's also got an exceptional talent for scoring goals too.

Baines would be a better LB but if he could be a very good CM and we've got someone who can go into LB and play to a high standard, then it could be smart. Why have 2 boss players for 1 position when we can spread it around and cover a position in which we are desperately short? All without spending a penny... and maybe saving those precious dolla dolla bills for big Rom.

There is no 'situation'. You need to have multiple good players in positions, that's the only way you can hope to compete in Europe and domestically.

Just because Oviedo is on the bench doesn't mean we need to move Baines or sell one of them.

Is right

There will be plenty of time to rotate with Europe,FA cup,League Cup and the league

Martinez has mentioned that he want to use Baines as defensive midfielder like Lahm at Bayern M. If that move is a success, it's gives Oviedo a chance to claim the left back position as his..

I've said it before, since we DID play even better with oviedo, who is younger and could give 10 years to the club, why not sell baines to provide great funds for summer, and buy a left sided cb for example martins indi who can cover there and let garbutt play Europa. And we would have good money left for other positions. Strong view I know but it could be best thing, look at mata for example with chelsea when he got sold

So we repay a players loyalty by selling him ... Works both ways the lads utter class and his attitude to whole transfer saga was immense someone the other players will look upto you don't sell them type of players

Fair point but just having 2 good left backs will be awkward when it's money we need for that striker really, I mean I bet 90% chelsea fans were thinking what is mourinho doing when he was selling their player of the season the last 2 seasons but other players fitted what mourinho wanted better so he sold him, and oviedo looked better for me but it was only a few games so hard to judge accurately, wether we keep or sell him it's a win win situation

Only situation I see is that they are both first team starters for their respective countries at the World Cup starting in 4 weeks.

BBC news just said Ashley Cole has been left out and isn't even on reserve list.
