The atmosphere

did anyone get the feeling that there could be unofficial standing in the south upper? or will it not be to the liking of the ticket buyers, or ultimately too steep to stay standing?

i dont like sititng down at the match and feel like south lower will all be season ticket holders
They should have put safe standing in the upper south just to prevent people from falling over each other when we score. It's that steep.

There`s a good few grounds that have barriers because upper tiers are very steep, like Valencia, and these are not safe standing areas.

If the back part was rail seats, they couldn't have the rake that they have. That would mean that the back row would be further away, either leading to a worse view or reduced rows to maintain closeness. It would also reduce the imposing nature or the stand.

All in all, it's not ridiculous at all.
So they haven't designed it to allow the option for rail seats in the back rows then? That is ridiculous. Even Tottenham added rail seats to the back of theirs.
The priory was atmosphere as requested by fans. A Blue Wall, you need the whole Stand stood as often as possible to get that, and the best way for that is standing at the back not the front.
There's nothing imposing about half a stand with fans sat down.
Also safety, it's steep up there.

Tottenhams stand isn't as steep as ours.

I was in the lower and it felt steep, looking at the pictures it looks even steeper up there. Almost dangerous in fact. I remember falling about 5 rows down at wembley in 2009, this looks even steeper than that...

Rail seats are there to allow/encourage/force standing. What your asking for is safety barriers.
Dual purpose. Standing is better atmosphere wise at the back and closer to the roof. Also, behind the goal in the stand which is advertised as the Home End there will be more exuberance than at the sides, so you have the safety aspect too

I get that standing is more conducive for atmosphere, but if you want standing on the upper, then as it currently is, you would need to reduce the rake of the stands.

Put safety barriers in by all means, but if that encouraged standing, then they would have to actively discourage standing, with a number of options, to maintain a safety certificate.

I guess the question is, when asked what you wanted, was your answer a full standing stadium, or a stadium that replicated the feeling of being close to the action with steep stands. You can't have one without compromising on the other, unfortunately.

I'm not sure choosing to compromise one over the other can be labelled a disgrace tbh, it's just a difference in approach.

We all know how important it is to have a good atmosphere when you're playing at home. Indeed, several of our players have credited the electric atmosphere at Goodison last Wednesday night with our comeback against the RS. We also saw the 12th man effect at play against Bayern in 1985, against Wimbledon under Walker, against Man Utd the year we finished 4th under Moyes and against Crystal Palace under Frank.

To those who have already been to our new stadium on the banks of the Royal Blue Mersey: do you think BMD is conducive to a good atmosphere? And is there anything we can do to make a good atmosphere more likely? Other than winning football matches, of course!
The late BK was supposed to be helping the designer of the ground to make it a Stadia with a great atmosphere - so don't hold your breath ....

South stand does look crazy steep, really hope no one tumbles down at any point in the future and no one gets hurt either. I do think the sound will be immense when stadium is full and roaring on match day. Really cant wait to experience it. It was a good test by the looks of it. I am still amazed the stadium is built and we have a new home. Crazy. Awesome amazing bloody fantastic ooooh exciting times love it!
