Again the bowling was nowhere near good enough.

I think the plan was always Shoaib Bashir to come into the Adelaide test, however, he has had a horror show of a tour and became literally unselectable. So their hand was forced and Will Jacks has had to play a role he is spectacularly ill-equipped for.
Whoever comes in now after McCullum and Stokes needs to avoid getting strangled by their own 'strategy'. It's ok to pick players over 30. It's ok to have an opening batter with three shots in his entire locker if it means the middle order come in to an old ball for once. It's ok to play the best wicketkeeper in the country even if he only averages twenty-odd - the gains there outweigh the perceived losses across an entire series.
