I think you are probably right. But retaining unstoppable Bairstow is a terrible mistake.

Didn't look like Cummins had too much faith in Murphy, that could be an issue if the game goes longer than Leeds. Though obviously Hazelwood is far better than Boland who doesn't look too threatening in England.
They also now have to pick Marsh who is less of a front line bowler than Green. I guess they could go Green instead of Boland, but you would think they have to get Hazelwood back in after failing to take 20 wickets

Boland misses OT I think, but they'll need a spinner on that deck, so god knows what they do with Murphy
I always associate the Oval with the last match in a series and would rather keep that than Lords.

I've not been in Lord's, but it is the largest ground followed by the Oval. I guess money talks. Oval is a great ground, imo better than other grounds I've been to (OT, Trent Bridge and Headingley). I guess these stadiums (along with Edgebaston) need to catch up/receive investment.

I don't know if it's relevant, but when Bairstow was making a shed load of runs during 2022, Foakes was the wicketkeeper throughout.
When you look at it. Foakes is a keeper/batter. Bairstow is more of a batter who can keep.
Stokes needs to remember, sort out the spine of the team, then fill in the blanks.

Hell, put Bairstow into open like in the 1 day format, we have struggled with a decent opening partnership for ages. You wanna play basball and have Bairstow in the team, but have a decent spine to the team? Might be the answer. I do think it is something that should be looked at, at some point.

Bairstow average is significantly lower when he keeps versus being in the team as just a batsman.
They will stick with him though, just look at Crawley as to why...
His average is actually almost identical (36 each). In the golden run he enjoyed last year he was batting at 5 and wasn't the keeper though. The question is whether that run was a relative flash in the pan or indicative of a lasting change.

I can't imagine he'd be going out to bat with a great mindset after the howlers he's had with the gloves, would definitely give him a chance to score more runs if Foakes came in.
