Australia and India seem to have plenty of players who do more than blocking the ball. Warner, Rahul, Smith, Kohli score runs at a good pace.

I agree. Apart from Warner though all these players have exceptional technique allied to their shot making skills. Sibley, Hameed, Stoneman, Burns (all openers we’ve tried since Cook retired) don’t have the necessary technique required let alone the shot making skills. It is stating the obvious we only have one quality test batsman in Root. He averages nearly 50, yet no one else in the ashes squad has averaged more than 30 in tests this past year. We were never going to compete in Australia with such a poor batting line up.
