The whole situation just feels so utterly hopeless. Already glanced at a local forum and it’s the same tired, idiotic arguments. People are either so misguided that they honestly, deep down, believe that the answer is MORE guns, or they’re so selfish that they think one of history’s most poorly written and confusing sentences honestly means that their right to own a firearm supersedes another human being’s right to not die in a mass shooting. Whatever it is, nothing is going to change. At least not for the better. In fact it will probably continue to get worse. That country is disintergrating.
It really isThat country is disintergrating.

I'd love to hear from our American toffees as to their opinions on this. The whole situation just feels so utterly hopeless. I cannot believe that the vast majority believe it's as simple as the two choices you've offered up.
However, they are not.if guns were readily available in the UK, I think we'd be experiencing something similar.
You did - to the best of my knowledge, @TN Toffee is American as are a few others in this thread.I'd love to hear from our American toffees as to their opinions on this.
Partly this, but also the fact that so many politicians are bought and paid for by the NRA. When the gun lobby is bankrolling your campaign year after year, you end up being more accountable to them than to your actual constituents, who as you pointed out, are largely in favor of at least some restrictions on gun ownership.I don't think it's the vast majority, nor even a majority at all. But it is enough people, who are geographically located in neatly gerrymandered areas, to give one political party reason enough to block any attempt at change and so hoover up enough votes from said areas to stay relevant - a symbiosis of tragedy.
Guns, stupidity and weird religious/nationalist fetishes are a dangerous mix. It's not that hard to own a firearm in the UK. If you want one, you can absolutely get one legally.
The difference is that in America it's still like the wild west.
The biggest problem in the 21st century is mental illness. And America has the most people suffering from mental illness. They refuse any vetting process.
This problem is only getting worse.
It truly makes me ill that I am in full agreement. The whole situation just feels so utterly hopeless. Already glanced at a local forum and it’s the same tired, idiotic arguments.
