And this matters now why? How would anyone have known that in the moment? Prosecute the guy for taking his vigilante act well past the line, but not because the robbers gun happened to be fake after the fact…In the moment when it was pointed at the customers I’m sure they thought it was real and felt their lives were in danger.
With regards to the initial round of gunfire into the robber's back, obviously he had no way of knowing if the gun was real or not. I would say the fact that the shooter picked up the "weapon", surely realized it was fake, then STILL immediately shot the guy in the head should have some bearing on any defense he might offer that he was in fear for his life in that moment.

I'm gonna float an idea here, test it out, run it up the flagpole, toss it on the table, see if plays in Peoria, let me know what you think -

Maybe, just maybe, the US of A should do something about guns.

Whaddya think? Could it be? I don't want to be too forward; I think any idea is worth considering. Maybe change the 2nd Amendment to include only unfettered access to muskets? or bullets made of jello?

The suspect was a 72 year old man who has killed himself. No clear motive but he had gone to the police in early January complaining about some of his family members committing historical crimes against him.

"....39 mass shootings have taken place across the country in just the first three weeks of 2023, per the Gun Violence Archive."

I am at a loss.

I can be sarcastic and say 39 shootings just so Lauren Boebert can pretend to be tough and wear a holster in her crappy restaurant.

I can be sad and say 39 shootings, lives lost, families broken, communities shattered.

I can be self-righteous and say it won't happen to me or mine, that somehow what happened to others won't happen to me.

I can be depressed and say nothing can be done.

But none of those are adequate: The US needs to change - so for those of you who are citizens, pick a problem and get to work on it. Mine will be gun violence.

Get rid of the easy access to guns - over here you have to persuade the Gardai (Police) that you are fit to possess any sort of gun and need a licence which can be removed if necessary. The USA seems to just allow anyone to walk in and buy any kind of gun with minimal checks required.

Please don't be offended when I say, "No sh!t, Sherlock" - it's an easy problem to see and say what the solution is.

The problem is doing it in this country with our political system and current culture.

It's multi-dimensional:
- there are more guns in private hands than there are citizens, so over 300 million guns, besides those that will be purchased / manufactured this year,
- we have a constitutional right to bear arms that's not viewed consistently across the political spectrum.
- and a perverse "settle the frontier" ethos that makes everyone think that being better armed makes us safer!

So, yes, the answer is to get rid of the easy access to guns. The problem is doing it.

Sorry, @Bluerover I'm definitely on my soap box at the moment.

No offence taken my friend. It is just horrendous to see so many innocents slaughtered because of muppets that can get all sorts of guns with sfa checks as to their suitability to carry lethal weapons
