I'm a billion percent believer in the " it's not guns, it's people who kill people. I just can't see the arguments for gun control.
Dear Spotty,

Remember that you said this? If you genuinely thought what you've slipperily (is that a word?) evolved your stance into, you'd never have said what you did. You're now pretending to accept that gun controls do reduce the number of shootings, but just won't eliminate all, which is so obvious that nobody ever need say it. You might just have well come out with the stunning insight that gravity makes things fall downward.

Your statement that you can't see the argument for gun control is clearly inconsistent with what you're saying now, and is a product of the utterly deranged theory that gun control just doesn't work, which is definitely what you were originally saying, whatever you might say now. .

Must have been about 11-12 years ago…it was a rough trip my nose started bleeding once I got to the hotel due to the elevation, aridity
I played in a coed league when I got here. Thought I was in relatively good shape. Two sprints and I could hardly breathe. Altitude is a real thing for the first month or so.

So the last five pages have been pointless ?!
Not pointless. Proved that in some quarters, people will argue their case. I genuinely think reducing the amount of guns on the street - will be beneficial - and hopefully the number of incidents. My argument and that of people more knowledgeable than myself on the topic, have said categorically that mass shooting will continue. Incidentally, gun control isn't going to happen, ever. The pro gun lobby is too powerful n the US.

We have pretty tight gun control in MA relatively speaking.
im not sure you get how America works.

Does everyone on here attribute words to people ad hoc to suit their argument. Am I saying gun control won't stop mass shootings. Yes. No inconsistency, I've said it throughout. I've also said the more guns off the streets the more safe they will be, but not extinguish the threat of mass shootings. It's got very tribal, people can disagree, it's ok.

Aarggh, sorry. I get it now. I agree with your argument and naturally, I get how America works. Disagree, state why I disagree and give a rational for my thinking, and now naturally I don't get how America works.

Does respecting someone's free speech mean that I get, how it works, does understanding how the vast majority of Americans feel it is extremely important to be able to bear arms and defend themselves how they see fit and their belief which I happen to strongly agree with that - that it's bad bad people who kill people - and that it's crazed madness and naivety to blame the guns. Is that " getting " America enough for you. Calling people names and accusing them of not getting how America works is pathetic, lazy and childish. I respect those views which argue against mine, I don't ridicule them dispute thinking " getting rid of the guns will stop it " argument is naive, silly and lazy. Even those on the left of politics - reactionary as they are - have conceded that getting " rid of the guns " will not stop mass shootings.

Still, maybe in time I will " get " the American people.

Ruarri can, and I’m sure will, speak for himself as to what was meant by the phrase.

However the quote was “not sure how America works”. The USA is a big place but you seem to be painting it with an extremely large brush - “Incidentally, gun control isn't going to happen, ever. The pro gun lobby is too powerful n the US”.

Californian attitudes are vastly different than say Texas on a whole host of issues including the NRA. And because states get to write some (not all) of their own laws on how to deal with things different laws can be applied in different states. California gun laws are already the strictest in the US and our governor is promising more

So the statement “gun control isn’t going to happen ever” seems a tad weird when you live here when you don’t specify a) what specific gun control you are meaning b) aren’t clear which states you are meaning.

This American is speaking pure facts here:

Pure facts? Within the first 10 seconds he yells that people want to ban guns. I’ve yet to see a single individual of any political influence suggest that. And the idea that we need armed guards everywhere when no other country needs that is also not pure facts. And let’s say a criminal does break in waving a gun around…The expectation you have is that he or she will patiently wait for you to go get and load your weapon? I don’t think any sane people are sleeping with a loaded assault rifle under their pillow, and if anyone does keep loaded weapons all over the house, they’re already in more danger than that made up scenario he’s yelling about. That guy is a moron.

I did think it was interesting that he appeared open to stiffer background checks however.
