The Absence Of Pienaar & Finding A Like For Like Replacement

People mentioned rosicky, but haven't arsenal got a whole squad of players in the same position. I'm sure they'd let us have at least one of them.

Those who think we should get a standard winger need to remember that bobby will most likely revert to default style of play so we need clever players to work with the full backs and forwards, not necessarily fast.

A cunning player.

I'm rambling

I think this pretty much sums it up. From what I've seen Bobby likes out-and-out wingers (McGeady, Gerard, Atsu, Lennon) and maybe that's why he has the insistence on the two holding midfielders, essentially playing an attacking and defensive unit. This seems to curb the full backs also.

Moyes preferred the inside forward style which relied more on the cunning you're on about and interplaying with the full backs.

Not easy replacing players like Pienaar and Osman who can create that half a yard that makes a difference and it's going to be interesting to see which way he goes for replacements.

I can't help but love Pienaar
He really seems like a sweet guy
Looks like he'll definitely be in the squad for another season, unless Martinez chooses to get rid of him. Let's hope not.

I would like to move to SA - Pienaar

Judging by that fun trick you did which was captured on video and shown on Youtube, you appear to be healthy and in good spirits?

Yeah it was because it was my first game back from injury and I was just excited to be out there and to play, I just have to enjoy every moment. The body is feeling good, my knee is in the best shape it’s been for a long time, so I’m quite happy.

The injury which made you miss most of the season must have been very hard mentally as well as physically, especially with the team struggling on the pitch. What helps you to stay positive when you have a long term injury?

My family for starters, they always push me. They know when I don’t play I’m sad and they just try to make me feel good.

Everton and sponsors like PUMA have stood by you despite the injuries over the past few years. Why do you think you inspire this loyalty?

Actually I don’t know (laughs). I think the support I’ve got from PUMA and Everton is something good because it keeps me going. Obviously you want to pay back but you don’t know in what kind of way, you just have to make sure you go out and play and enjoy your football and be as good as you can.

Everton had a poor season, what can manager Roberto Martinez do to turn things around next season – in terms of bringing in new players, new training methods, new formations?

It was a bizarre year of injuries … the coach doesn’t need to anything different.

The annual Steven Pienaar Community Cup is taking place – why do you remain committed to this tournament?

I want to get a new Steven Pienaar out of this community. Normally scouts wouldn’t come here to look for talent, but this tournament is a platform for the kids to show their skills.

The Steven Pienaar Community Cup has developed over the years, why do you think it continues to grow in popularity?

First thing - PUMA is involved, giving out free kit (laughs). People want to play in this tournament because it’s not only about football, you make new friends. There are teams from all around Johannesburg, so you meet new people and maybe they will invite teams from Westbury to come play in their tournament. For the fans there’s music, there’s food. It’s a nice day out for the family.

What are you plans post your soccer career? Will you consider moving back to South Africa permanently and getting involved in football in some shape or form?

I’d like to move to SA but my kids are in school that side, it’s still early days.
