The 5th Ashes Test

It is a compliment to their systems, and perhaps the people themselves that James Anderson and Ian Bell have come back here looking like completely different players to the plodders that landed here five years ago.

After this test, we need a total clean out. Ponting needs to retire, great player, but he is finished. Clarke should be sent back to find some form at domestic level. And he is certainly not captaincy material. The coaching staff (especially the muppet Tim Nielsen, who was somehow given an extension of contract late last year) . the admin. (James Sutherland especially) and the selection panel should mostly be moved on. I still can't figure out how Tim Nielsen got that three year extension considering his run of results. Would be like the RS giving Hodgson a five year extension based on their current season.
LOL@hodgeson comparison i have to agree with you about Clarke to me while channel 9 see him as the great white hope i see him as average at best maybe its me that cant see his potential,

I think that woeful team of ours needed that result it gave a clarity that was needed at that time we'd had a good run but frankly were an average team,Duncan needed to be moved on Vaughan haunted the dressing room, poor Flintoff's ill kept youth had bitten him on the arse and KP needed his pay cheque.

But they came through it a much better team and the next key is KP we have to have a player primed and ready for when he quits(i suspect the next ashes series if we win) other than that i see good times for maybe, injury permitting a decade or more.

The media over here are so defeatist, I guess it is somewhat refreshing in a way. But I can't imagine us being any worse than what we have dished up. After the retirement of the greats, I thought we will fall back to the pack, but remain a very good side. There are signs of a decline in the same vein as the Windies decline of the late 90's, and with our grassroots and domestic competitions, you have to ask, how has it become so bad.

Terrible administration, terrible coaching, mentally weak players that only care about their pay packets...

But I admire England for how they have gone about it in this series, very professional and strong outfit. If only they sent this team over in 2006, would have been something to behold.

With respect an' all , as Sir Geoffrey said ...
" Shed NO TEARS FOR THEM . THEY NEVER DID FOR US . "

Remember McGrath .

SEMPRE .

True mate and i defer to the great men both of you :)

But i say it again we need a strong aussie side then we can really crow about beating them, this side is a shambles

Word is that Gregg Chappell will soon be in charge of both the Centre of Excellence and of Selectors. He won't be settling for second best any time soon.

Very well done England - outplayed them, outpsyched them. Great to see after all those years of Aussie gloating - I'm looking at you Glenda "I have to go with 5-0" McGrath.

I also hope that we don't do the open top bus around London this time - although it would be much more deserved than 2005. This is a much, much bigger achievement than that series which was a very close contest and could have gone either way.

Ditto any idea of Sir Andrew Strauss - great captain and player but please keep our foot on the Aussie throats for a decade - then claim let's give them gongs. They'll deserve them.

...and well done the Barmy Army. Said it before - great support a long way from home. Please - somebody post the words and tune for that song they're singing about Mitchell Johnson.

Looks like i'm gonna get that innings victory i was after.
Hopefully by half twelve tonight the Barmy Army can get down to some serious 'rubbing in' of noses.:P

Can somebody tell me the words/tune that the Barmy Army sing about Johnson? TMS describes it as 'particularly cruel'?

Apologies if its been asked before.

Not exactly sure, its "he somethng soemthing left, he something something riiiiight, Mitchell Johnson, you're bowling is [Poor language removed]" to Sloop John B.
They don't usually do the nasty stuff the barmy army, so I doubt it's too bad.

he bowls down the left (wave hands left)
he bowls down the ri-ight (wave hands right)
Mitchell Johnson....
your bowling is [Poor language removed] !!

when I went we absolutely crucified Shane Warne in Sydney (he got us back with interest 100 times over)

lets say his sexuality was brought into question on more than the 1 occasion.

They inducted Border into the Hall of Fame before 1 of the games (1 dayer prob) the same Border that we saw 12 months earlier leave 1 against the racist nation, only for middle stump to shatter behind him, cue us backpackers in the members quack quacking him back into the pavilion, anyhow they brought him round the pitch in a chitty-chitty type thing only for the assembled ranks to strike up with "1 Ian Botham, theres only 1 Ian Botham", "who the feckin hell are YOU " then we mooned him en masse.

Some great chants though Th'army.

Midnight oil burning tonight - first chance to see us clinch a series win in oz since I was 12 (and I wasn't allowed to stay up that late then) - just hoping the tail doesn't wag too much 1 am ish fingers crossed......

I almost wouldn't mind seeing Smith rattle off a quick 50 or 100, nothing too much, just enough. He's a good lad and deserves it, had a lot of pressure on him to perform and looks the goods.

Look at me, giving the Aussies a bit of leeway, we must be smashing them!

Here's some...

Ricky Pointing
Ponting is the captain
Of the Aussie cricket team
But once the match is over
He is a gay drag queen

Ponting's special friend
Is a man called Glenn McGrath
You'll see them holding hands
At the Sydney Mardi Gras

Shane Warne is an Aussie
(To the tune of My Old Man's A Dustman)

Shane Warne is an Aussie
He wears a baggy cap
He's got a Nike earing
He looks an Aussie prat
He's got his little flipper
He's got his box of tricks
But when he bowls to Freddie
He gets knocked for six.

Shane Warne is an Aussie Part 2
(To the tune of My Old Man's A Dustman)

Shane Warne is a druggie
He should be in rehab
He took his mummy's little pill
To try and lose the flab
He took it to lose weight
From all the pies and beer
But when the ICC found out
He got banned for a year

Shane Warne's Villa
(To the tune of Amarillo)

Show me the way to Shane Warnes Villa
He's got his diet pills under his pilla
A dodgy bookie from Manila
Nursey's on her mobile phone

Repeat x3

La-la lar la-la la-la lar, Fat Git!
La-la lar la-la la-la lar, Take a bung
La-la lar la-la la-la lar,
Warney where's your mobile phone?

Justin Langer
Langer is an Aussie
He wears the gold and green
He is the biggest whinger
That we have ever seen

He wasn't very happy
When we called Brett Lee's no ball
He's got a very big mouth
And he's only five feet tall

Take the Urn Home sloop john b
We came over from old Blighty
The Barmy Army and me
Around Brisbane town we did roam
6 quid for a pint, a grand for a flight
With Strauss our captain, we'll take the urn home

So hoist up the John B sail
See how the mainsail sails
Call for the captain ashore
Take the urn home
We'll take the urn home
We'll take the urn home
With Strauss our captain
We'll take the urn home

Ricky Ponting's a broken man
Without Warne he has no plan
He tries to carry the team all on his own
He's losing his hair
But we don't care
'Cos Strauss our captain will take the urn home

So hoist up the John B sail
See how the mainsail sails
Call for the captain ashore
Take the urn home
We'll take the urn home
We'll take the urn home
With Strauss our captain
We'll take the urn home

Graeme Swann is a caring guy
Rescues cats in his spare time
Now he's gonna tear the Aussies apart
They can't read his spin
And so England will win
'Cos Strauss our captain will take the urn home

So hoist up the John B sail
See how the mainsail sails
Call for the captain ashore
Take the urn home
We'll take the urn home
We'll take the urn home
With Strauss our captain
We'll take the urn home

Hitler's only got one ball...

To the tune of Colonel Bogey

Ponting , without Mcgrath and Warne
Is hopeless and only 5ft tall
He's skipper but now so bitter
As we claim the Ashes once more

More Sense Of Humour
Sung to the tune of 'Waltzing Matilda'

Once a jolly Aussie sat down at a cricket match
Sat in the shade of the BARMY ARMY
And he sat and he sighed and then the poor Aussie cried
Why have the Poms got more humour than me?

MORE SENSE OF HUMOUR
MORE SENSE OF HUMOUR
WHY HAVE THE POMS GOT MORE HUMOUR THAN ME

Cos I'm thick as a brick
I'm a seventh generation skip
That's why the poms got more humour than me

And so the Aussie sits there
And he starts to think a bit
Thought he'd make a song
That his mates could enjoy
So he thought up a song
And it didn't take him very long

(Falcetto) AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE
OI OI OI

We are the Army
We are the army, the Barmy Army
Oh we are bonkers, and we are mad
We are the loyalest, cricket supporters
That the world has ever had

And I was at this one, about Jesse Ryder, great NZ Batter but a serious drinking problem lol:

Also, re justin langer, the Barmy Army still hum Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs when he's out warming up the Aussie team (because of his height), he finds it funny still.
