So much is dependent on the upcoming run off election in Georgia. But Trump's defeat there have proven voters that their ballots have great power. Thus I'm hopeful voters in Georgia will stay engaged in this race so we can win these two senate seats for the sake of our democracy. But as stated in this article Democrats can't make control of the Senate the main issue for people to go out and vote. They need to explain why. Democrats need to connect with voters and explain that control of the Senate is important because important issues that can make an impact on people's lives are on the line. Issues such as getting the pandemic under control, providing a fair health care system for all, social and racial justice reforms, income equality, etc are all at risk if we don't take control of the Senate. This is the type of approach that's needed to win these seats, so I sure hope they give Stacey Abrams and groups like Black Voters Matter in Atlanta all the support they need to get out the vote.

6 seats isn't a dealbreaker. It's not great that they lost them but the Senate is the key part and they just completely ballsed that up..

a big failure. Unfortunately it is our sad reality and the worst aspect is that we have to make it happen if Biden is going to have any chance to pass any parts of his agenda. Mcconnell, and even red democrats such as Manchin, are already objecting to some aspects of it. So it is going to be an uphill battle even if we win control

Then the whole "progressive" party could keep with the Democrat name and people like Manchin could go towards the Republican party and we could actually achieve stuff in this country.



aaaaaaaand then the election happened and all that hope was gone. The fn Overton Window in the country is just sooo far to the right of where it should be. If Republicans pull the country to the right by 50% and then the Democrats come in and grab it back to within 5% of where it was, thats great but its STILL 5% more right than where it was before. And it keeps on happening every time either party takes power for the last 30 years.

I had so much hope in this election. I thought it was going to be massive repudiation of Trump and Republican's policies of the past four years, and specially their ineptitude the past few months dealing with the pandemic. So no seeing the blue wave that I deeply desire was very devastating. I think I have cried more this election than I did four years ago because of the realization that our country is much more divided and far right than I ever thought or hope.

How could looking at pre-COVID odds tell anyone anything? Biden was in the thick of the Democratic primary, and was a pretty substantial underdog to even get the nomination. A better indicator would be some sort of Trump vs. The Field bet, if anyone was even offering those.

They’ve set the system up so squarely in their favor, I imagine they’ll be fine. It’s absolutely insane that it feels as though the balance of power has always tilted towards them my entire life (I’m 36) in spite of the fact that they’ve received a majority of votes in exactly ONE national election since the end of the Cold War.

This is true, but fixing elections is like cheating at any sport; it works for a time but you end up creating opponents who can beat you even when you are juiced.

All the GOP has done these past thirty years is create a situation where they were wiped out by a madman in 2016 and have then repeatedly had to humiliate themselves ever since, culminating in what we see today.
