meanwhile, in AOC being spot on again news:

lol @ them saying she was the one breaking the truce though; we've all been watching CNN for the past day (and even the article admits she was responding to "moderates")
I really like AOC, but it’s way too early for her (or even for those saying the opposite) to make any concrete judgements as to why the Dems lost House seats.

It’s also worth noting that they’re still 30+ seats up over the 18 and 20 cycles...

And also I’m pretty sure that (contrary to what seems to have become perceived wisdom/accepted lore - and contrary to what I personally wish was the case) most of the gains in ‘18 weren’t people from the left of the party, but moderates snatching some light red/purple seats.

The most likely (but certainly not definitive) reason for the losses seems to be that Trump being on the ballot in ‘20 boosted R turnout in some of those districts.

Spellbinding speech from Biden. He and Kamala Harris are exactly the sort of leaders the US needs to drag itself back from the chaos and division caused by that tango-skinned piece of faeces. The division will probably never be fully ended, the wounds may never heal, but at least the next administration can start the country onto the right path again.

4 years of agony are over. Labour must look and learn if we're ever able to free ourselves from Johnson and his lackeys.

After watching the Comey rule the other day I can imagine every inch of Trumps' life will now be scrutinised until they can throw away the key? It would be a fitting ending.

The decision whether or not to pardon him could be the hardest one the new administration faces. He and his inner circle of course all belong in orange jumpsuits but there is an argument that letting him fade in the ether would be for the greater good. If he goes through a trial he'll still be in the media every day calling his lunatic supporters to arms, creating unbelievable headlines and over-shadowing the president as he tries to get the real work done. If they let him just isolate himself in Mar-a-Lago, shutting his despicable mouth for the rest of his life, his cult of personality will slowly be forgotten.

It's going to be so hard for Biden that one.

Largely agree but what is an undeniable takeaway from her comments is how outdated the Dem party machine when it comes to campaigning effectively in 2020 - the same goes absolutely for the Labour Party in the UK, unable to take advantage of the huge grassroots movement of 500k+ members because they're incapable pairing it with an online strategy befitting of the era in which we live.

Her role in the party at 31 is to simply do all she can to pull the party to the left and onto a more progressive agenda for both her constituents and those that the likes of Stacy Abrams successfully mobilised countrywide who tipped the scale in key areas, so don't be surprised that her tone isn't more conciliatory when there is finally a window of opportunity to alter the political landscape for good. As to whether all this could've waited until after the GA runoffs...

I agree. As much as we'd all enjoy seeing him locked up, and it would be real justice, pardoning him would be a huge conciliatory gesture that would probably remove his claws and still leave him in the financial mess he is doubtlessly in

Anyone who thinks he’ll “fade into the background” is either out of their mind or has paid little to no attention to the last 4 years

The creator of The Apprentice is already working on a tv show with Trump acting like he’s still President, holding rallies, commenting on the events of the day and the Biden administration’s response to them. Even having a mocked up Oval Office and a “Trump Force One” plane to fly around on.

Prosecuting and convicting him is the ONLY thing that might shut him up.

He’ll be doing that regardless of whether he actually faces criminal charges. But still, your point stands. It’s going to be important for the next administration to avoid, or at least mitigate, his base being able to hold him up as a martyr.

I mean the party (along with various outside groups) turned out more voters than any presidential election in history. Unfortunately Trump (as was likely) also had huge turnout.

I’m not just criticising her - those saying outright that it was BLM and the GND that caused the losses are being equally daft.

Oh and yes it absolutely should have waited until after the run-offs.

I see I’m still banned from MY Biden thread. Gifted to me by @Ruairi77

One thing I hope now is that now he is elected we can cut down on the partisanship and now as a forum hold his feet to the fire.
