As I’m watching us go back and forth about the Electoral College, and seeing all this energy going into counting and calling different states, it also occurs to me how much energy the debates over electoral machinery distract from discussion of actual substantive issues that affect people. Maybe it’s just late, but this feels unsustainable.

Honestly I don’t think any Brit has the right to be high and mighty given the utter scum we’ve voted in consistently since 2010. It’s just pretty heartbreaking on virtually every level. It’s crazy I now look at Blair and Bush and think “you know what? By today’s standards they aren’t that bad”

Isn't that horrific? Back then I would have never thought that it could get worse than Bush and boy was I wrong.

NPR doesn’t actually call anything themselves. They report what the AP calls.

His approval rating dipped by about 10 points in early pandemic, but then jumped back up almost to pre-pandemic levels (which were low overall). But it matters what demographic it dropped in. If it was elderly white folks, for example, he might have lost votes where otherwise he wouldn't have, etc.

I do not like the fact that so many of my fellow americans voted for a corrupt charlatan. And this doesn't require some "intellectual" analysis. Trump is a despot and demonstrably ineffectual, but somehow he's convinced a good portion of the USA that he's "one of them", which he is not.
