Yeah, it's a good point but a bit if a different debate that one. Of course, within the state school system there will always be better schools than others. It is assumed, however, that the 'better' schools are in affluent areas. This is not necessarily true. I work in an amazing school in an incredibly deprived area of the north west. Are people moving house to fall in our catchment area? Absolutely not. Are we oversubscribed? Yes. This tells me that the problem is not some areas having great schools and some having poor schools, but more some areas being affluent, and some being poor.

That is spot on. Superb stuff mate.

I think we only disagree with banning private schools really. I just dont like banning things that are not dangerous and the like. Like I have never ever been fox hunting, but why ban it? (no replies please, just to make a point)

If someone wants to spend a bomb on private education, for whatever reason, let em. Just make sure that the state system is so good that only snobs/fools would do so is my stance.

Yeah, fair play.

I agree with all of this, apart from I would also ban private schools.

Out of interest, seriously, you being in education and me not being. Faith Schools? Catholics only, (for example ffs). How do you feel about those?

Agnostic, (ironically!) me. Choice again see.

Well, I went to one, but I'm not a fan. I work in a community school and work closely with other faiths schools. They are ran in very much the same way, with some funding from the church, but any school in which a religion has a vested interest, be it Catholic, Jewish or Muslim, makes me sceptical.

Me too. Would never send my kids to one. Not a dig btw, just the one down here is well odd.

Not really. There's massive variances in the cost of sending a child to private school. Some cost £4000 a year others cost £20k. I wasn't going to the latter.

You still need to have a decent job to send your child to the cheapest private school. Not something your single mother on minimum wage could do.

Yeah, four thousand quid is still quite a lot of money?

Is it ?

They'd been saving since i was born to send me to a better school. If you work it out from when i was born to when i finished at the school it's about £29 a week to save.

I would hardly say that saving £29 a week is mega dosh. Some people spend £29 a week on cigs. Lets try not to judge other people's wealth based on misconceptions about saving or financial prudence, eh.

I think the Muslim and Jewish faith schools are generally a bit stricter in terms of how religion affects their learning compared to Christian school, but you can still get pretty devout Christian schools in this country. On the flip side, some you would hardly know they're religious.

TBH, million quid doesn't seem that much these days. Just the price of a middling flat in London or a Hypercar.
Guess value of money changes as you get older. 1980 .. John Player Blue (fags) for well under £1

Each to their own imo. My family has been very, very well served by the education system in this country, inc SEN. My eldest went to the same comp as I and his Mum did. It was ace then, it is ace now.

Take the politics, from both sides, out of it, make it brilliant. Not much to disagree about really!
