That is an example of the tacit purpose of politicians to shift responsibility for direction and actual policy away from themselves, they want ready scapegoats.

I saw a similar line of thinking taken over the devolution of NHS spending in Manchester and I'm not sure I really understand it. On one hand people generally want to have greater power over local affairs, yet when they're given it, politicians are said to be absolving themselves of responsibility for those things.

Isn't devolution by its very nature shifting responsibility locally rather than centrally?

Or will it be.....

....... the resurrection of the Dark Lord, Milliband D???

I voted for Ed Miliband as my first choice and Andy Burnham as my second choice during the leadership elections. I stand by that and reckon Ed would be good for the country policy wise. I cannot even imagine how strong the media campaign to get him out would be if he became PM though. It's already fierce enough now.

To be fair to the man, I know of nobody else who gets called a Nazi/Hitler more than an actual Nazi/Hitler. He's probably discriminated against more than anyone right now. Whether people think his policies are extreme or not, they're certainly aren't "kill 10 million people" extreme.

Aw, poor Nigsey.

If people discriminate against him, which is pretty laughable, really, it's because of what he says, not because of what he is.

Of course Farage is discriminated against. Do you not remember when those Romanians came out and said that they would feel "uncomfortable" if he moved in next door to them? Bloody discriminating Romanians.

If it happened, was aloud to happen organically, it would be beneficial, however the control from Westminstet would still exist whenever an issue arose, a minister would never pass up the opportunity to pop up on telly and point the finger elsewhere.

The general public are not in the mood for devolved responsibility at the moment, democratically speaking a vote in the x factor is all they can muster judging by election turnouts, asking them to create soviets in London, Dundee, Humberside, it would cause a panic.... :)

Wasnt it one of Prescotts hobby horses way back in the early days of New Labour?

Like you say, little appetite back then. Maybe more now after the referendum in Scotland possibly, but in my opinion, no problem in the world can be solved by adding more politicians to the ones we have now.

I guess I was just thinking how to get from a state of centralised governance to one of more devolved/personal/local responsibility, and what steps might be required for that to happen.

I agree with you though, it's always going to be a challenge to get anyone in power to give up that power.

Fixed it for ya.

If it ain't broke...

Not sure who calls him Hitler, but he's certainly far-right, and I suspect we do not know the true extremities of his beliefs yet.

To say he's the most discriminated person you know of is quite ridiculous. The man thrives if negative press. He creates it. He laps it up, and he's never off the tele. You know what they say; there's in such thing as bad publicity.

It's like you've never been on the internet. The easiest thing to do is type in "Farage" into twitter, where people like to voice their delightful opinions about the man. I'd say the Hitler slander is especially active today after he revealed he had a testicle removed.

To say he's the most discriminated person is certainly not ridiculous. Even if he thrives off of negative press, it's still negative press.

How is it laughable, if you don't mind?

Because they don't, really, and certainly not in any way that's comparable to racism or homophobia, for instance.

Farage... The discriminator... Discriminated against. I'm still laughing.

They don't what, mate? Think you're a bit lost in translation there.

You're laughing at discrimination? You liberals can be very vicious when the shoe is on the other foot.

R U Troleing me?

I find the idea that Nigel Farage is discriminated against in a comparable way to racism or homophobia etc. laughable.

Any discrimination which Farage may suffer, which I very much doubt he does, is due to his own words, and therefore not really discrimination so much as people just disagreeing with what he says.

To make the comparison is pretty shameful of you, really.

In other, semi related news, Frank Field is not too well. In hospital with breathing complications or something.

Hope he will fine. One of THE most principled MPs amongst that shower, (all MPS btw), imo.
