He had a decent tail end to last season and made the England team for the Euros. If they wanted to try and keep his value high as well as his morale they should have been talking him up. Instead they make it clear that he's not wanted and that they're open to offers. West Ham and Newcastle could wait it out knowing that they're desperate to unload, especially as he'd be like a bad smell lingering round the club. If no bids came in his confidence would be on the floor and he'd be no use to the team, so his wages would be a drain for no return. Bad, bad management all round.

According to some reports, personally telling Carroll that he wasnt wanted was one of Brendan's first acts at Anfield.

I don't think he is a bad player, Newcastle played to his strengths both obvious and none obvious. He will link up with Nolan know knows his game very well.

What purpose does it serve? Say that he is wanted, whether it's true or not, and he will perform better and his value will be higher.
