Former Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright has left Preston North End just weeks after signing a one-year contract with the League One club.

Wright agreed a deal with Preston at the end of May after being released by Ipswich Town and he had only been training with Graham Westley's side for a few days.

However, the 34-year-old has not been able to settle in the area without his family and has left Deepdale with immediate effect.

"It might seem somewhat dramatic, but I have only been away from my home in East Anglia for a few days and I know already that I simply cannot live that far away from me family," Wright told the club's official website.

"I have children settled in school, so moving isn't an option. I think it is only fair to be honest now rather than down the line when the club may not be able to solve the problem that I am creating."

Preston boss Westley said: "It takes a brave man to be honest in a difficult situation like this. Richard thought that he could handle the separations from his family, but he has found it too much.

"He is a good man and I wish him well on behalf of all at PNE"

Former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou has joined Lille on a free transfer after his release by the champions of Europe.

http://au.eurosport.com/football/ligue-1/2011-2012/kalou-joins-lille-on-free_sto3339166/story.shtml

"Lille confirm the signing of Salomon Kalou, who passed a medical this morning after arriving at the club last night," the 2011 French champions announced on their website.

"Agreed in principle at the end of June, the European champion has signed a four-year contract until June 2016."

The player, 26, explained his decision to join the club near the Belgian border.

"Lille's project, notably with the impending new stadium, is ambitious and really pleased me. Given what I already knew about the club, there is nothing more you could ask from Europe's biggest clubs.

"I am excited about coming here and look forward to meeting the warmest of fans."

Kalou, who scored 60 goals in six seasons for Chelsea, was a free agent after leaving the Champions League winners when his contract expired at the end of the season.

He is a direct replacement for Eden Hazard, who himself moved to Stamford Bridge at the start of the summer.

Lille - who finished third in Ligue 1 and will play in the Champions League qualifiers - also lost on-loan Liverpool playmaker Joe Cole, who is expected to resume his career at Anfield, but signed France midfielder Marvin Martin in June.

cant believe someone paid 5 mill for park, he was gash before he was over the hill, hes uber gash now, a player i always feared moyes would go in for, runs around a lot and gives the ball away, dreadful player

People who believe that must be backward.

TBF Villa is 31 and still hasent recovered from his injury

Good to remember that Barca once swapped Eto for Ibrahimović plus 46m euros, Now that was fooking crazy

He's 30, but more to the point Van Persie's only got a year left on his contract. Won't happen.

Now that was an absolutely ridiculous deal. At the time Eto'o was a better player anyway.

I could understand a straight swap but when I seen that they had given Milan 46m aswell I nearly fell of my chair
