The “Gammon” debate

Because the system is still heavily tilted towards people with money. Donald Trump’s kids didn't particularly excel at an academic level and yet they didn’t ever have to worry about getting into Penn. The median net worth of a black household is 7 percent that of a white household... why is that ? because of the US governments policies back in the day which resulted in black people being denied wealth and the same opportunities as white folk.

Do you think white privilege is made up ?
You're right in saying that there are sections of the population that are underprivileged and are held back by government policies. The Democratic party in the US (the party of slavery and Jim Crow law) look upon these underprivileged people as their voter base and need to keep them dependent on the Democrats to maintain welfare levels. So long as you deny people the ability to better themselves they will remain underprivileged. It's up to the people of the US to choose politicians willing to enable this, Obama didn't even try and Clinton is your typical person with money (loads of it).
I'm white and I didn't grow up privileged so what does that even mean?

It doesn’t mean that you lived a privileged life or haven’t worked hard to get where you are, it means you’ve benefited from a societal privilege beyond what is commonly experienced by non white people.

There are so many examples of it I wouldn’t even know where to begin in terms of listing them.

Oh come on now, so that means white privilege doesn't exist?

But you have to admit that a disproportionate amount of crime, violent crime and murder is commeitted by blacks in the USA. The fact that balcks make up 13% of the population and yet commit over 52% of the murders must tell you something.
I think that "racism" is being used as an excuse to try and hide the reality. I also think that black Americans would do more for themselves by ditching the "African American" label and start calling themselves "American". After all if I was to move to Nigeria and became a Nigerian citizen (as if the Nigerians would allow that to happen o_O) I wouldn't be called a European African would I? The blacks in the USA (not all of them to be sure but a majority) are being used as pawns by the Democratic party in their political games. They are treated as people in need of constant financial support in the form of welfare instead of being encouraged to be useful Americans.
What are white people in S.Africa, Australia, New Zealand called? There's actually so much wrong with this post, I simply don't know where to begin. Call yourself just America, and encourage people to be useful- magic- racism gone.

Did I say that? All I want to know is what does it even mean, apart from "that bloke has got more than me and he's white so he must have some advantage denied to me because I'm a different colour". Nobody has any control over the circumstances they are born into. It's what they do with their life that they should be judged by, not the colour of their skin be it black, white, brown, yellow, green, blue or indigo/violet. Are you privileged/underprivileged by being born who you are/by the colour of your skin, or by the circumstances under which you were born, or by what you have done with your life since you were born. I'm not in any position to judge you, and nobody is in any position to judge me for who I am, only for what I do or have done.

What was the intention of using the line then Kev? Of course in a perfect world everyone would start with the same opportunities, but we both know that's not the case, and a lot of that is by design, and that design was created by privileged white folk in the western world, you can see where I'm heading.

You really are such a clever man, so I'm sure you can find all that out yourself. There's so much wrong with my post you don't know where to begin, or you don't know how to refute it? Take some time to think and come back to me :bye:

I explained it to you a few posts above this. If you need examples of it (of which there are countless) then just use google !

Yes of course I can see where you're headed, but the term "white privilege" isn't being directed at the actual priviliged few but at "persons of pink colour" in general.

Of course I can refute it, but it lacks such a basic understanding of racism, that's why I don't know where to start.
I've been treated differently for being Scouse & that was an annoyance, but to find out that certain kids in my area were not allowed to play out with me due to being mixed was heart breaking. Unless you've truly felt the pang of being isolated for something you cannot change, or influence- it's hard to put yourself then, into the shoes, of someone facing prejudice.

Kevin, how old are you? Not trying to take the piss, but are you late teens, early 20's?
I'm an OAP, was in the MN for 49 years and have seen a lot. What worries me is that people today seem to take everything they see on the TV or read in the papers as the gospel truth, and it isn't. People don't believe what they see with their own eyes but would rather believe what someone else is telling them is the truth.
