I'm out today.

Not a proper strike though, I bet there's no-one stood round a burning oil drum outside St Cuthberts......more like sat in Costa Coffee having a latte and a cheeky biscotti

The "amusing" thing is, my 2 youngest are off, while the oldest had to go in, poor girl was fuming this morning, especially after the boy was running round the house singing "YOUR GOING TO SCHOOL" over and over again, kids hey.

Just been reading a 'common myths about teaching' article.

APPARENTLY.....

9-3pm= myth ...Work 'til 8-9 most nights & also their days off at weekends
summer off= myth..... spend almost all of summer going on courses & planning the next year

then goes on to say that a great many have to work 2 & 3 jobs to be able to raise families. Now I'm not sure what hours they work these jobs if they are working 'til 8-9 at night most nights & at weekends ?

I'm fairly certain that if we became a communist state in which everyone earned the same, then the vast majority of teachers would remain that as opposed to going working on a line somewhere, and there is a simple reason for that which isn't that they are dedicated to the job, it's the working conditions.
When others have striked in the past to protect their industry and livelihood they have been said to be militants and troublemakers, is that the case this time ? or is it that it wont be quite as good ?

The other teaching union aren't striking and don't understand why this 1 is, because there are ongoing talks involving both of them, so when some of their own profession don't agree why should I?

This is true mate.

Used to assume teaching would be an easy life - it isn't. I couldn't do it.

I couldnt be a teacher, for 1 im probably not clever enough and im pretty sure I would either have a nervous breakdown or murder a child in my first week.

At the end of the day ive got nothing but respect for teachers in general, for example, my sons current teachers are doing a superb job in helping me mould my son into something worthwhile in life, its often overlooked what a good and very difficult job they do.

If they feel they arent getting what they deserve ive no problem with them striking, its all a load of polictical bollox anyway.

My daughter is not in school today due to strikes but she got to complete her school work online and they have put plenty of school work up, cheeky or what.
