One Arl Bag English Teacher had the aim of Phil Taylor with 1 of those, a lad lobbed it straight back & within 5 minutes the Head had broke both his fav. cane and some bones in the lads hand cos he hit him that hard.

Hahaha, Christ.

That's what's missing in schools these days, a bit of discipline and fear!

Not that much, though.

My brother had a note this week saying that the teachers at his kids school are having a 'development' day today, as well as the strike yesterday, so nice long weekend (is the perception).

They really don't help themselves sometimes.

Anyone else wondering what Bruce's point is, here? :dodgy:

Given the huge variance in teacher quality, why not pay the good ones more, and the worse ones less? Isn't that proposal part of what the strikes are about though?

I mean I'm sure in your business if someone was half as effective as another employee, you wouldn't want to pay them the same salary.

In my (admittedly, much wider than your) experience, the "good" ones don't want to be paid more. I got an "outstanding" for a lesson last week. Some of my colleagues will have got "good" or possibly even "requires improvement." I don't want any more money than them. It's not a business - it's a school.

He's just bitter because his teachers didn't teach him how to use apostrophes correctly.

I'm a secondary school English teacher. The kids I teach have me for 3 hours a week. That's normal. How can you base performance related pay on that? What I do in the classroom is nothing compared to the time they have at home. If their parents read to them, restrict TV and Internet access etc then they will make progress. All this talk about our influence and skills is irrelevant when you look at the bigger picture. We're just guides.

In South Korea, children as young as 12 formally assess their teachers. As in, they submit a full form, signed by their parents (who also get to rate the teachers despite watching them teach no more than 40 mins per term). The form includes 'how do you rate the teacher's preparatory work' and 'do you think the teacher is kind enough to you''.

If we are moving towards a system like this in our country, the education system is in deep shiz.

Too many parents are happy to relieve themselves of the responsibility of their child's education mate. Its easier for them to just get angry and fume at teachers for refusing to pull their pants down and let Gove [Poor language removed] them harshy.

It truly is a race to the bottom now. The Tories are in power and it shows, too many clueless bells swallowing it though.

You're spot on. Race to the bottom indeed. Train drivers are paid too much! Teachers have far too much annual leave! It's the Daily Mail effect. The gains made by trade unionism being undermined by those who should benefit from it. It's so depressing.

But I only get three weeks holiday!

Get yourself unionised and vote against the tories then. There was loads of biffs on here bigging up the tories before the last general election and we tried to tell them. But the tabloids said otherwise. Maybe we get the government we deserve.
