Takeover?

Well now something has, the sheikh himself has said that the portsmouth deal is not connected to this deal, another one bites the dust, mon Ian Ross announcing the takeover

"Leading club" can be any of about 20 or so clubs. I would not draw a conclusion that this statement would narrow it down to the top four + a few teams.

I would say there are about half a dozen teams that fit all the criteria (price, "leading club" etc) that we have read so far. Everton is one of these clubs.

Sad [Poor language removed] that I am I tried googling this dude but could find very little info. No idea if this guy is even seriously loaded or not. That's one of the problems, people assume that since he is part of a royal arab family he must be seriously rich. No doubt he is rich by our standards, but rich enough to make us competitive with Man City etc? Or even rich enough to hand over enough money to make a serious attempt at breaking into the top four? No idea.

Some are sceptical that this is even true.

That doesn't suprise me!! They been too busy creaming themselves over the Ronaldo move, and Citeh's next signing!!! They're probably just p***ed off that they've been kept in the dark for once!

Makis - they're saying it's a 'top club' now
I know and I tried to address this point. Of course if it's one of the clubs in the Premier they are calling it a "top club". It wouldn't be so interesting if they talked about "mediocre" or "small" team, would it? But we will hear about this in a few days time. No need to argue about the semantics.

And it looks like the area isn't quite as loaded as some of the UAE emirates: Ras al-Khaimah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If we get a rich buyer.. what do you want him to spend his money on?

I'm fine with him giving us money to fund transfers, getting rid of debts and buying a new stadium. What I DON'T want to rely on him/them for is keeping us afloat. Everton FC should be able to make ends meet even without money from our owner.

If we rely on our owner to spew in a few million pounds each year just to cover our expenses, we are in trouble and might turn into a new Leeds when he won't give us more or sell us on.

Clear our debts, buy a right flank, a striker, then get some squad depth in. After that try ad buy Stanley Park off Liverpool, they can't use it and the council couldn't turn us down after accepting Liverpool. I'd like to see them spending money on expanding the clubs merchandising, making us a global unit, after a few years I want us to be completely self dependent

Everyone seems to be still assuming the following:

(1) That the statement is true;
(2) That the subsequent reports provide some sort of collaboration - every single one starts with "A premier league club has been bought - says a UAE news agency" - i.e. they arew just repeating what the original report said.
(3) That the new backers intend to follow the Chelsea/City model of a toy football club, rather than the Newcastle/Villa/Pompey (twice)/West Ham (3 times)/Sunderland/etc etc etc method of investing in a club with the intention of making a long term profit.

I'm hoping for a good result like the rest of you, but don't count chickens etc.

Surely we'll know before Weds if its true and if so who it is because everyone will be asking the clubs if it's them, and they'll have to respond in some way.
