T20 World Cup

I know in a home series they can be competitive on their wickets but it really is the world cup and not individual bilateral series on which you're on the world stage and judged accordingly.

All kinds of different factors in bilateral series, not least home advantage, which can be very considerable if the conditions are alien to the visitors and obviously which team members are actually touring or missing out.

In the big tournaments, nearly all players want to be available and home advantage is often not so great even if where it's played is still a factor.
Granted, but I think beating the Aussies 4-1 can be classed as progress as they had never previously beaten them.

Bangladesh aren't a like for like case with reigning T20 world champions West Indies. Bangladesh have been in decline for some time and as a far more recently promoted country from associate level, their progress towards being more competitive is far more important as they have no recent history of major finals or cup wins as West Indies do for example.

Their progress is far more aligned with Sri Lanka who were made a full member directly before them and have won world cups and been extremely competitive since.
Right.

Impressive win by Australia, Adam Zampa impressed, coming in at a time when the Aussies were under some pressure and really swinging the game firmly Australia's way.

In Hazelwood, Zampa and Cummings Australia have a few potential match winners. Starc can go for a few by attacking that fifth bowler Maxwell and or Stones looks key.

If Warner comes off they can beat anyone with Finch too a potentially explosive partner. Maxwell can be a bit hit and miss but you daren't let him get his eye in. Smith is quality whatever the format with Stoines and Marsh dependable enough.

They have most of the bases covered and for me one of the really likely winners together with England and Pakistan.

Today's game in group one is between the two 'also rans' of the group, the desperately disappointing West Indies and Bangladesh. Whoever wins this game is almost certain to be eliminated as is whoever loses it of course.

The commentators will say it's a must win for both sides to have any chance at all of qualifying, but really they're just clutching at straws in an effort to bring any context to a game that really has none.

Nothing really on it but the reigning world champions West Indies are possibly facing ignominious defeat to Bangladesh. Only half way but this would represent some new low for the hapless Windies, can you possibly get any worse?
