MANCHESTER CITY and Everton head the race to sign £8million-rated Dejan Stankovic, from Inter Milan.
San Siro boss Jose Mourinho says that the Serbian midfield man, 29, is not needed.
City chief Mark Hughes has made an enforcer a priority.
And Everton boss David Moyes is out to replace Lee Carsley — who has moved to Birmingham. Moyes missed out on Schalke-bound Holland star Orlando Engelaar. (N.O.T.W.)
EVERTON, Villa, Celtic and Turks Galatasaray are locked in a battle for Martin Stranzl.
The Spartak Moscow defender, 28, was the star of a poor Austria side at Euro 2008.
Stranzl, at 6ft 3in, was a dominant figure against Croatia, Poland and Germany.
Celtic hope a £4million bid will land him. (N.O.T.W.)
DAVID MOYES is set for showdown talks at Everton this week over his summer spending plans.
The frustrated Goodison chief wants to bid for Russian hotshot Andrei Arshavin, but needs the go-ahead from the board.
Everton are awaiting for a decision on their new stadium before letting Moyes spend any cash.
Zenit St Petersburg striker Arshavin, 27, tops his wishlist. A powerful central midfielder is also high on his agenda. (N.O.T.W.)
Moyes is poised to sign a new five-year deal worth £12.5million with Everton. (Sunday Express)

Tottenham will join Everton and Newcastle in the hunt for Holland midfield star Orlando Engelaar.
Engelaar, 28 - dubbed 'the Dutch Pa trick Vieira' - is with Steve McClaren's new club FC Twente and had been expected to join crack German side Schalke after Euro 2008.
But Engelaar's ag ent Eduard Burleson says the player could still be open to a move to the Premier League. Burleson claims
Everton and Newcastle have registered an interest in the £5m-rated holding midfielder.
Spurs boss Juande Ramos is also keen and could offload Tom Huddlestone to Everton to make way for 6ft 4in Engelaar, who has impressed at the Euros. (The People).
Burleson said: "If Schalke does not work, there could be English options."

Everton boss David Moyes will sell striker Andy Johnson - with bigspending Middlesbrough favourites to head the £7million-plus chase.
Moyes met Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright last week to review the club's lack of transfer progress and talk over problems finding the cash he wants for new captures.
And now Johnson, signed from Crystal Palace for £8.6million two seasons ago, will be sacrificed to swell the kitty.
Word has already spread round the Premier League he is available.
Boro supremo Steve Gibson is keen to find the cash for Johnson, who would form a dangerous partnership with Brazilian hitman Afonso Alves.
Johnson comes within their price range and boss Gareth Southgate could make a space for him by shipping out one of his other strikers.
Mido has been a flop since he signed from Tottenham and is under most pressure.
Boro will face competition from West Ham and possibly Manchester City in the race for Johnson's signature.
The Hammers were keen to do a deal when they feared Dean Ashton would be leaving but are still considering an offer.
City chief Mark Hughes is a Johnson fan although he has so many strikers he would probably have to ship out the likes of Rolando Bianchi and Georgios Samaras just to get him a dressing room peg.
Johnson is waiting to hear about his fate but will move because he knows he is no longer first choice.
He was pushed out of the No.1 striker's slot by the arrival of Yakubu.
Moyes thought he was going to have cash to spend this summer, but problems with Everton's ground move and financial issues with backers, means he will not have as much as he wanted.
Selling Johnson is the best way to raise cash, although some of it would have to be spent on a replacement.
Moyes likes the look of Sylvain Ebanks-Blake but thinks he is over-priced by Wolves at £5million.
Meanwhile, Middlesbrough are going head-to-head with Derby County for Bristol City's want-away midfielder Marvin Elliott who will cost around £2million. (The People)
