Summer transfer window.

Looks like Newcastle could already be on there 2nd signing of the Window. Get your Fingers out Angus
Maybe we are doing deals in the background and are waiting for the new financial year to kick in
Not an unreasonable thought
Newcastle have the Gordon money ( not all of it as we got some ) burning a hole in their pockets
We may shortly have the Ndiaye money in our pocket

Still odd why we put Rohl in this years payments.

Never said we don't need one, said we won't sign one.
We needed one last season as well. Going in to a season with only 4 CBs is stupid. The 5th choice should be a young CB with potential. They will bounce around the first team squad and the U21s but should be able to step in if required.

Four is plenty numbers wise, you're never keeping 5 centre halves happy with 41 games to go round.

Just remembering Tugboat Keane and Tugboat Tarkowski together for the last seven games that ended our European hopes alltogether, should make people realise one of them should have been sacrificed for Obrien, even just for the pace he has compared to them two, he had two fullbacks Patterson or Coleman, he could even have put Garner in there if he didn't trust the other two. We had options to replace Garner in midfield, there were NO excuse Moyes didn't change things, when the team looked tired, beaten and full of defensive frailty.
40 games and they were tired. Yes Moyes should have made better choices in selections but there's no excuse for professional footballers not to be fit enough to compete over a standard Premier League season. Didn't Palace play 60.

That’s why the 5 is a young CB going between the squad and the U21s. We don’t seem to have anyone around the U21s that’s particularly highly rated.

if we had got one last season, we would then likely have been able to move on from Keane now instead of a new deal and then this season would give us the opportunity to move on from Tarks.

Instead, we are going to have both of them and likely need to find 2 CBs next summer who potentially would both need to be happy knowing they won’t start if JOB and JB are holding the starting spots.

It's always nice to have first team quality players in the under 21s obviously but I think we're a fair bit away of having a queue of genuine PL level players waiting in the wings, nevermind ones who are a) happy not to be playing any senior football and b) continuing to develop without that exposure to senior football. Even leaving aside the general difficulties in doing what you're suggesting, if you really think David Moyes would be letting Keane go on a free transfer so he could start playing a teenage centre half with no first team experience then I have to question whether you've paid any attention to his 25 years in management.
