Summer transfer window.

Mail top young prospects at the world cup

Kojo Peprah Oppong (Ghana)

Age: 22 Club: Nice Position: Centre back Caps: 4 Goals: 0

Even though they failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana will be one of Africa’s representatives this summer and in Oppong they have one of the continent’s most interesting young centre backs.

He gave Ghanaian fans a scare when he sustained an injury in the spring friendly against Germany but he has since returned to action in Ligue 1 with Nice.

He has the ideal mentor, too. Now 42, Brazilian defender Dante is still playing for Nice and has shown Oppong the ropes. ‘He told me it’s important to manage the game and conserve energy, especially when you’re leading, so you don’t overexpose yourself,’ Oppong said.

Oppong previously played in Sweden – a favoured stepping stone for West African players – and his value has climbed to about £10million since moving to France. Last season, he made 43 appearances in all competitions and is thought to have been scouted by Everton.

The '2 summer window' strategy basically says given how horrific the holes in the squad are and the budget you can only address them in 2 years. Other than if you sign Xhaka apparently. Arsenal took at least 3-5 years and they are filthy rich. Being honest how long do you think it would take?
If the money is spent properly then this window should see us qualify for Europe and the next summer window have us in and about CL qualification

It’s a good point mate and often under acknowledged point on here - the recovery.

Always felt it would be 3/5 year recovery mate.

We are still behind the curve in terms of half a decade of under investment in Moshiri, in the last couple of seasons we have seen an awful lot of natural wastage in the squad as well, this has seen a huge turnover.

Overall I think this has led to an unstable environment of change which often isn’t great in terms pushing forward or the very least having grossing pains to deal with.

So ultimately we are year 2 into a 4-5 year recovery IMO. Were we coming out of was a very bad place.
