I wouldn't include Garner in that, and no I'm not just trying to back him up. The lad covers so much ground it's ridiculous, he also ends up getting sucked back like a sweeper is back in fashion, not sure if that's a tactic of Moyes or Garner knowing he has to cover any movement from Keane and Tarks. One doing it at walking pace is a problem.
Also there’s a difference between a winger stretching the play and racing down the line before cutting inside to get a shot away, and one who floats inside in the build up to pick the ball up with his back to play.
Our sole attacking tactic for most of the Moyes era, and even for long periods under managers after him was to create a triangle on the left hand side to spring the left back forward to cross it in.
We still do it now. So much of our play is via Mukolenko who is probably the worst player on the ball in the whole team.
The top teams in Europe have pace down each flank and in every position. We are playing walking football in comparison. Grealish KDH Garner Ndiaye Gueye they can barely get a sprint in between them and people wonder why we get pushed back in games and have such low possession stats.
Grealish is a tidy player on the ball but either play him inside at 10 if he has to play or don’t play him. Maybe 20 years ago Baines and Pienaar could befuddle most of the prem who had some lard arse CB playing at fullback or a dopey striker on the wing, but it never worked against the top teams back then and now almost every team in the prem has pace and power in all positions. Except us.
He should have left Armstrong in the middle for a good period of time.
