Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

So you think OBrien should be on the bench or starting next to Branners instead of Tarkowski?
I’d personally start O’Brien to start to solidify that partnership at the back with Branthwaite but understand that Moyes will err on the side of experience with Tarks. Which is fine given how good Tarkowski has been, he’s a rock. I’m not saying it’s an easy decision to make. Having Tarkowski on the bench sometimes could help his legs long term but that’s not guaranteed.

But again, O’Brien is a center back, not a right back. He was bought as a center back to play center back. He did a great job solving an issue last season but is the chance to actually solve it with a proper right back.

O’Brien was often very reluctant to cross the ball when he got up the field (which is understandable, given that he’s yes, a center back). I’d rather have a selection issue between Tarkowski/O’Brien than a square peg at right back for another season.

Did I mention that O’Brien is a center back?

Personally i think we should prioritise a number 6 no one in our squad can play that position properly.

I mean if we had a blank check id want the whole midfield replaced as tim and Armstrong both probably need another loan spell and garner and gana both arent good enough for me.

But we have to stretch the money we have and imo we have to get 2 rw, striker(maybe 2), RB/LB.

I just cant see us getting 2 cms in

we deffo need a starter nxt the gana

that’s our weak point

May we have hard selection decisions all over the park

Agree with what saying mine is more about the options for rb patterson/coleman. A rb should 100% be coming in this window, i would understand obrien starting in that position at the start if the season. Then say was the rb at coventry Milan van Ewijk who would hopefully break into the team during the season. Is good to have different options and formations so we can adapt differeny styles

Do we need 1 or 2 CMs? Thought it was nailed on we needed two 🤔

Think we need 1 starter cm.

Then we have gana, garner, tim, alcaraz and armstrong to come back as well. So that would be 6 cms

We either need to sign 1 top notch player in the mould of an Ederson (Atalanta), Andrey Santos (Chelsea) or Wharton (Palace).

One of those would walk into our midfield and elevate the whole team. The downside would be the £40-60mil fee it would cost, but the upside might be that the players around them all improve. Signing one of them or a similar level player could be the catalyst for the team to jump up the league.

Otherwise a player to come in between £16-30mil such as Diarra (Strasbourg), Camara (Monaco) or Rigg (Sunderland).

Someone who comes into the squad and makes the position their own over the season. Then becomes as good as the more expensive players listed over 1-2 seasons.

For me, I'd be on the phone to Atalanta asking about Ederson as Gasparini has left. Chelsea also like to sell their younger players for PSR so Andrey Santos may be attainable.

Wharton of course, is a big favourite of mine. Perhaps Palace take a decent offer for him and he wants to play for a bigger club on the up.

Who knows? But its probably where we need to spend the most money this summer.

Maybe, but the attacking part of the role is non-existent once he crosses the half way line - which I’m not judging him for at all as it’s not part of his natural game.

If you look at how often he’d get into prime crossing position but pass it back to Harrison or a midfielder was very telling. Now maybe if he had a quality winger instead of Harrison, maybe it would be less of a problem.

We had to play him there out of desperation…that’s not a good thing.

I get what you’re saying but I’m still of the opinion that starting the next season with a center back at right back is negligent. If they get someone late in the window and there’s a bedding in period, that’s marginally better. There’s priority positions that need to be in for pre-season. Right wing, right back are at the top of that list.

If were going for 8 players then it makes sense to bring in 4 loans and only spend on 4 permanent signings.

Meanwhile...once the stadium is up and running, sponsors and other revenue generating activities could and should massively increase our revenue and PSR position for next summer as well.

I'd get Wesley from Flamengo (linked in Jan). But whoever comes in, i'm sure O'Brien will start at RB as Moyes never drops players in straightaway if he has an existing player there -- he gradually brings them into the team e.g Baines.
