Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Can somebody answer this please?

I put the Arse game fully expecting to scout the boy and hes on the bench for 1 of the worst teams in the league.
He’s “managing a rib injury”. More likely, they know he’s off so giving Hirst who will lead their line next year, the game time instead.

I think if his only chances are 10-15 minutes coming off the bench when replacing tiring first 11 players, in a position he's not suited to, then thats very difficult to show his talents.
We face a very real prospect of him leaving us without anyone knowing if he has what it takes.
I cant help but feel this was a Thelwell signing that Moyes was not on board with and he is being very stubborn about it.
Obvious that this wasn't moyes signing, but thelwell...thelwell is just an opportunist and he is good in taking advantage of those situations. Moyes was unhappy about thelwell work during the January window and wouldn't surprise me that he got him the sack.

Well on the subject of Alcaraz, he did really well in the abscence of Doucoure when he was suspended and time off with the birth. And that was in his better number 10 roll, without an injured N'diaye and mcneil.
Admit who am I to quibble with Moyes considering the form, but the constant favour of Doucoure over Alcaraz I find a bit puzzling. Doucoure's Doucoure he can be awful on a day and then just muster something incredulous. Maybe that's the rationale that he's a player who needs to feel out a match hence the consistent start. Id argue that was the case at Forest last week. He was dreadful and then poof...a goal. Personally the extension would be far from guaranteed.

I just think Alcaraz at that price is a fair bet to at least be competent depth, with plenty of potential, I'd argue even likelihood to usurp that clause price. I wish we'd have seen some more run but I think a really powerful ball carrier with a knack for link up, decent goal scoring prowess and just general pitch workrate is in there.

I say this all the time but that’s what managers and coaches are for. They shouldn’t have to pick players for a run of games to see if they’ve got it wrong, they shouldn’t be able to decide whether a player is what they want based on all the other stuff they get to see. The idea that us not having enough to go on as fans and the manager not having enough to go on are in anyway the same thing is just a simple fallacy.

Anyone in the relegated teams we should be looking at?
Random name but Ipswich's Cameron Burgess I do think could be a savvy option for a few reasons. Can't say I'm super dialed in but have heard Ipswich fans say they have been very surprised from his quality in the jump to the prem, and think he has been by far better than their big signing Jacob Greaves.

Those are some reasons, but the main one is is that we are in desperate need of CB depth and he is expiring in the summer. At 29 I think considering his journeyman career I could see him intrigued by the option to stay in the prem on decent wages. Still has likely one contract of good play and is a cheaper veteran add to save the powder elsewhere in the market? Has also spot covered at LB? Checks a fair bit of boxes

Have seen he has had talks with Girona. I would guess that's an interesting option for him. Knowing their scouting also a co-sign of some talent for sure. Regardless still interesting

If we're looking at Ipswich CBs, we should go back in for Jacob Greaves. I never understand why players from championship sides to to newly promoted sides over established premier league ones, your chances of going down are so much higher. Greaves was very highly rated last year, we could probs get for cheaper now, still young enough to develop

Ollie Watkins will probably be on the move in the summer, he may remove one of Delap’s options and give us a chance at signing him. Watkins would be a great signing but that would probably finish all out budget in one signing.

I, like you were keen on that addition last summer. I will say Ipswich fans I've seen haven't been all that happy with his performance post injury especially. Most thinking it was an overpay to date. We also brought in O'Brien who I assume will eventually transfer back to CB.

I wouldn't take all that much from Greaves struggles, I still find him an egaging player. I do doubt they sell at a loss considering their outlay for him and Burgess likely leaving. I do like him still but in our climate a bit wary to invest +12 million at this moment at CB for a rawer end prospect if that was even possible. Not that it isn't needed but with the amount of squad turnover and finances not where I would start my summer additions. I think I would want a little more assurance in starter potential even if it meant a bit more of a fee. And as development squad cover maybe cheaper?

They also aren't mutually exclusive. Burgiss on the free is not stepping on other additions part of me thinking it's a decent idea. Im youth motivated in the market but do expect some veteran additions. If that can come on the free at Burgiss's level I'd welcome the room that affords in buying said under 23 attacking option or other crucial additions.

That said a Branthwaite sell would change the calculus. But in the various ways this summer could go I don't see a version where I would likely regret adding Burgiss on a free.

Need to stop signing overpriced below average English players.

You are what you sign.

While you see team like Villa signing a host of proven international players.

Relegation premier league players/championship youth >> mid table french/Italian league players.

I think people just want foreign players because they're 'exotic' but I'm still scarred by the Per Kroldrup signing from way back when

Yeah I think it’s safe to say we won’t be signing Watkins!
