Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Fair enough.

Want to expand on why though?
Doak. Non starter. Cost too much obvious other reason.

Sargent. Arse. Looks like one of Flanders kids from The Simpsons.

Others plausible. But obvious. No rigour applied to those names.

Which CB from Burnley or Sheff utd ? We're OK at CB. Need full backs. Maybe Burrows from Sheff Utd.

Yes, he DID stink out the championship with Hull. Their fans couldn’t believe Ipswich spent what they did on him. As it turns out, they’ve got lucky, which can’t be said about the rest of the 160 million they spunked up the wall! I guess they had to get lucky with one of them.

“He mustn’t have been too bad for Ipswich to sign him”?? They also spent 15 million on Muric in amongst other complete dross. Their recruitment team need firing out of a cannon.

And no, I don’t want him here personally, I’m just saying that if he’s a player the club wants, we SHOULD be able to compete financially to bring him in. For me he has the potential to flop massively next year as much as improve. 40 million gamble that isn’t for me.

If that was our budget for a CF who would you go for?

Ah but Zat likes a gamble.

He would been very happy if we spunked money on Emerson Royal and Max Aarons.

FWIW ( and it's not a lot ) I'd be pretty happy with Delap at £40 million too. Of course it's a risk but he's shown enough to suggest that he would be worth it.

That said 18 months ago Brighton were looking for £100 million for Evan Ferguson and his form and value had dropped off a cliff which is a salutary lesson when considering young players with inflated values.

Attitude is as important as talent and that's why I'm more than happy if Moyes is doing the assessment and due diligence.

Both would have walked into our team.

I note you didnt mention the likes of Guimataes or Wharton...

Ha, makes me chuckle that Muric shout. He was simply abysmal at Burnley, cost them a number of goals that led to their premier league demise, trying to pass out from his box, with Claus Thomsen success rates, and yet Ipswich thought it would be a grand idea to sponk £15m on him 😀 Ipswich spent a lot to give it a go in the prem, but your spot on that they blew it on dross. The lauding of Kieran McKenna seems to have finally blown over too.

McKenna has done well with that side dont you think?

I think we will be looking at Championship players again under DM.
I think there are a number of good young players there and these may fit into the budget that we probably will have.
I don't believe we will have a huge budget unless we sell JB . i think we will sign three or four players that could come straight into the team , I think a couple of loans and a couple of free transfers.
One or two, fair enough. But we should also be looking elsewhere, some good value in Europe. I think championship teams will charge fortunes for some of their players, when prem teams come knocking, not sure there’s loads of value in the championship

I have to commend him over what he did in getting them to the Prem, but again, I have to judge him with what he delivers in the big boys league and he’s been found wanting. He has spent a very large sum on a lot of players and ultimately, he’s not delivered and they are going straight back down. Some of the signings have been very poor and he’s not been able to do anything to stem the slide back into the championship. It’s very much HIS squad, so not like he wasn’t given the tools / funding. Not to suggest he won’t become better with experience of course, but some were lauding him as the next big thing earlier in the season. I’m sure they will come back up next season, and he will get the chance to prove people wrong, but until then sadly, he’s got a lot to prove. Comes across a decent enough fella, no drama’s but he hasn’t laid a glove on the prem.

….these blokes are lauded and courted by top clubs but then tend to fail with promoted teams. The first thing they need to is make their teams hard to beat, you see it in the FA Cup where a very well organised team can make life difficult for top clubs.

Nobody’s pretending it’s an easy task but failing to adapt with the aim of initially staying in the league seems to be what costs them.

I don't think there's a ton of value anymore for players from the championship. Players going for more than £30m? Meh.

Excellent analysis RD.

McKenna may prove to be a decent manager and 2 consecutive promotions are impressive but as you say he's spent a huge amount of money to produce a team that isn't remotely competitive in the PL.
