Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Nothing in the way the club's acted over the last god-knows-how-many decades suggests we're serious, apart from the move for Lukaku. Everything else has been on the whim's of a billionaire lunatic. The squad's too screwed to be spending that kind of money on one position anyhow.
I get the first part. Nevertheless, we now have new owners and, whilst everything is still in the unknown, my first impressions are pretty positive.

From that and the improved financial position, I can only hope that there are positive signs in the summer with regard to improving the squad.

We all know we need improved options up front, so hopefully that's where they prioritise, alongside someone with ability in the centre of the park.

Is it? If we get taken over by billionaire ambitious owners, refinance debts, ease PSR restriction from the new financial year in July whilst moving in to a state of the art stadium, and then still can’t make a 40 million signing to compete with even the mid table clubs then seriously what’s the point? Brighton splashed 40 million on Rutter last summer. Wolves signed Cunha for 44 million, Leicester signed Tielemans for 40 million, bloody Bournemouth with their 12k piddly stadium splashed 40 million on Evanillson! And we can’t compete with these clubs STILL?

We’re talking Delap here as well, not Harry Kane. I’m far from convinced that a player who stank out the Championship with Hull last season scoring 8 goals in all competitions in 30 odd games in a lower tier, is suddenly head hunted by the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea!

Yes he’s done well this year, but so did that Luton striker last season in the Premiership who’s now disappeared that plenty were creaming themselves over in here. I personally would like to see more from him before risking big money.

We’re not going to be in a position to splash 40 million on several players which we need, that’s obvious. We’re going to have to box clever on a number of deals, but surely we can make ONE big money move? If he does end up with options, then Moyes has a job to do to sell the move to him if he’s the player we want. We’re moving to a brand new stadium, we have new ambitious owners who are looking to invest, and more importantly, we’ll make him our starting striker who’ll play every week instead of getting splinters in his arse at Stamford Bridge or the Emirates.
Yes and it’s been mentioned a 100 times 40mil on a 5yr deal is 8mil next season, we could sell Paterson for 10mil and that probably covers it . The rumour which I don’t believe is they want the 40mil all paid up front. I’f it was 20mil downpayment this is where TFG come in.

…I remember watching him for Villa at Goodison and posting how over-hyped he was, then City go and waste £100m on him. Crazy. I’d not go near him myself, Jadon Sancho is another who has literally been transferred for mega bucks who is very ordinary.

I’d also be concerned about their desire to play after such megs-bucks deals leave them very comfortable.
Yeah, not Moyes type signings at all either. I think (and hope) Moyes is more likely to sign players who's attitude and character he knows will be good first and foremost, so that the signings are more low risk.

I'd agree with this, surely we're finally in a position where we are look at signing players with bit of value. Not the whole re-build obviously, but one maybe two players of credible value with proven quality. Also, the number of players swallowed up by Chelsea, never to be seen or heard of again is surely a wake up call for any young player wanting to get to the top. You've got to play every week, and we are in far better position to offer that with the size of our squad.

I'd like to us to add inexpensive players with mobility, drive and guile. Thinking back to old signings under Moyes, types like Andy Johnson, Carsley, Mirallas, Arteta.

Obviously I have no idea who these players would be in today's age. But I'd hope that's what we are looking for.

"Stank out the championship with Hull"

He mustnt have been too bad for Ipswich to sign him?

Not sure from your post if you want him or not...or are just pointing out that a £40mil signing should be doable?

The release clauses typically have the buyout amount due in full -- the same as in Spain. Thats Spanish law.

So I'd expect that buyout to be £40mil upfront. This should work in our favour as our owners have the money -- also unrelated to PSR and for PSR would be shown as spread over the contract.

I'd do it.

Yes, he DID stink out the championship with Hull. Their fans couldn’t believe Ipswich spent what they did on him. As it turns out, they’ve got lucky, which can’t be said about the rest of the 160 million they spunked up the wall! I guess they had to get lucky with one of them.

“He mustn’t have been too bad for Ipswich to sign him”?? They also spent 15 million on Muric in amongst other complete dross. Their recruitment team need firing out of a cannon.

And no, I don’t want him here personally, I’m just saying that if he’s a player the club wants, we SHOULD be able to compete financially to bring him in. For me he has the potential to flop massively next year as much as improve. 40 million gamble that isn’t for me.

Ah but Zat likes a gamble.

He would been very happy if we spunked money on Emerson Royal and Max Aarons.

FWIW ( and it's not a lot ) I'd be pretty happy with Delap at £40 million too. Of course it's a risk but he's shown enough to suggest that he would be worth it.

That said 18 months ago Brighton were looking for £100 million for Evan Ferguson and his form and value had dropped off a cliff which is a salutary lesson when considering young players with inflated values.

Attitude is as important as talent and that's why I'm more than happy if Moyes is doing the assessment and due diligence.

Maybe there's more but can only think of Philogene off the top of my head that has done it and his agent seems a wrongun that probably adviced him badly
Didn’t the turds across the Park try to do the same with that Rhian Brewster, think he ended up staying at sheff utd tho. Only other example is Villa again, as they done the same with Cameron Archer, bought him back and sold him onto Southampton 2 weeks later at profit.

Ha, makes me chuckle that Muric shout. He was simply abysmal at Burnley, cost them a number of goals that led to their premier league demise, trying to pass out from his box, with Claus Thomsen success rates, and yet Ipswich thought it would be a grand idea to sponk £15m on him 😀 Ipswich spent a lot to give it a go in the prem, but your spot on that they blew it on dross. The lauding of Kieran McKenna seems to have finally blown over too.

I kno 40 mill sounds alot for delap but is the cost for most strikers, like around the league all seem be a similar price wasnt beto 25/30. Just think problem will be the upfront cost they want

Phil the issue I have is it all seems like groundhog's day. It's like a relative telling you for 30 years that they're going to get off drugs but every 2 years they break down and your're back dealing with their issues. After a while it's just like "whatever", stop wasting both our time; I love you but you're a professional idiot.

Hopefully Beto’s recent purple patch will encourage some Italian sides to take a punt on him, at a more reasonable price. He stinks of a Bologna or a Lazio I reckon.
