Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

The Mangala one surprises me a little. He was fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was on steady wages and he is injured until December.

He plugged a gap and scored a couple of important goals, but I hope we are trying to get a bit better moving forwards.
Yeah for me Mangala is just a functional bottom half PL player, absolutely fine to have in your squad but not someone who you're wanting to spend decent money on etc. Signing someone who's still recovering from an ACL would need to have a much, much bigger potential upside than just being a decent option in the middle of the park - in his case it's like best case scenario he comes back and gives some solid cover and worst case scenario it's a complete blow out. Why on earth would we want to take that risk.

Just a bit of musing from me, feel free to ignore

Looking at his signings during his last spell at West Ham. Similar to his time with us, Moyes seems to go for players who are ready to step straight into the team rather than bringing in and developing youth players outright.
That's why it feels like Alcaraz wouldn't have been a Moyes type of signing (on the original loan) though maybe he's shown enough in his loan spell.

Soucek does fit that mold of an experienced Premier League player who could drop into the defensive mid role and add that experience there. Not saying I think it's the right singing or not, but I think that's the line of thinking.

Looking at his previous transfer activity, I'd expect we're looking at players over the age of 22 who can drop straight into the team, likely with experience of this league (Shocking, I know! )
That’s not necessarily how I remember his signings for us.

A lot of the bargain transfers which he was renowned for, were players who hadn’t quite cut it at this level, be it because of age, playing in lower leagues or falling out of favour elsewhere.

It depends how you look at it. Because he signed players that were proven in the premier league like; Lingard, Phillips, Emerson, Ward-Prowse and Zouma. But a number of the players he signed were not proven at the top level when he signed them and have gone on to be good signings, Soucek and Coufal were both at Slavia Prague, Bowen and Benrahma were both young players in the championship, when he signed them. I think most of the players on that list are better than what we have, but thats no surprise given our budget in the past few years
