From The Athletic Deal Sheet post:

Everton have been informed of West Ham United’s desire to retain Tomas Soucek after lodging an enquiry for the Czech midfielder. The Merseyside club are keen to strengthen in the centre of the park before next Monday’s deadline and showed an interest in Aston Villa’s John McGinn earlier this summer. Soucek, 30, was a favourite of Everton manager David Moyes during their time together at the London Stadium and fits the bill as someone who could add athleticism and physicality in midfield. Soucek’s Premier League experience also counts in his favour, with stalwart Idrissa Gueye likely to compete for Senegal in AFCON this December. West Ham, though, are unlikely to sanction a sale unless replacements are found. Patrick Boyland and Roshane Thomas
Kinnear and Hammond need to just lie to Moyes if Soucek becomes available.

Be absolutely criminal if West Ham get a good young midfielder and then sell Soucek to us.

How many holding midfielders do Liverpool and arsenal have?

This obsession with crab like defensive midfielders is bizarre to me.

What are you on about, who said crab like? Barry was a proper defensive mid, held position, covered and provided a great shield for the defence - whilst being a fantastic distributor also.

Errrrrm arsenal have Zubimendi, Liverpool have Gravenberch mate.

Would take soucek, probably not expensive and low wages. We need another midfielder and even 2, where one is young and can fill in. Then send Armstrong on loan.

Yeah I'm hoping the enquiry was more just placating Moyes - we asked they said no, hopefully they phrases it to west ham as is Soucek available on loan with no fee and you pay 80% of his wages ?
