Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Vital we get the following, a midfielder who can dictate the play and get around the pitch, winger with pace who can score goals (if not two)and a striker. Would like a right and left back too and we will need a centre back but those are the key ones.

Disagree on it not working.
How do you reckon it worked then? Against a relegated team with poor defensive record, how many chances did they muster from combinations? Beto's goal was a cross created from interplay between Alcaraz and Mykolenko. McNeil's goal was assisted by Patterson. I just didn't see the sort of movement or passing for some reason I was expecting.

One of Moyes' big problems is that he is obsessed with crossing into the box to create opportunities. Yet, doesn’t use traditional wingers and likes those wide players to tuck in and full backs to get on. That really requires excellent FBs. It makes me wonder about where we can get real quality pace into the side.

But he never puts any emphasis on playing and creating from central areas. This often reduces your chance creation to endless crossing. Sometimes it works, sometimes you could do that for 5 consecutive days and won't score. I remember a game when Moyes was at utd and they were poor and Moyes just kept referring back to the fact that they'd put 40 crosses into the box. Utd fans couldn't stop laughing, making comments like 'try playing through the middle' etc.

First game though, with 2 just back from injury and the other barely having a kick either.

Play good footballers together, often, and they will produce good football.

Also, those tactics pretty much blew themselves out nearly 20th are ago

We controlled the game.

There were numerous situations where we were trying to go wide (no doubt under instruction) to get crosses in against 4 centre backs and the players were just manipulating the ball between them.

If Beto was a Bergkamp we' have probably been able to play keep ball between Garner, McNeil, Alcaraz, Ndiaye and him...thats how much control we had.

Secondly, it was blantantly obvious the 3 had never played together before. They didnt know where each other would be, where they would go...or what they may do. That comes with playing time on the pitch

Thirdly we saw Alcaraz look good on the left first half and then central 2nd. Ndiaye seemed ok to me central first then was double marked alot 2nd. Mcneil just stuck out on the right but linked well with Patterson and Garner.

Lots of positives

True he seemed to adapt his tactics a bit at West Ham mind you but yeah we need to be more innovative in how we play. Main issue is the playerrs mind you for me if you don't have a midfield who can retain possession and physically dominate the other team and we don't we will always surrender results

If people haven't checked out that Football Focus interview yesterday where Moyes cautions against spending any money at this club "because we dont do better when spending money" then they really should.

He's telling us well in advance not to be expecting any wholesale moves.

I'm stil convinced it'll be little better than sell to buy - and Moyes is the one to sell it (and sell it early) to fans as a virtue rather than a vice.

Moyes sells players to buy. That's his modus operandi at this club.

Expect more of it.

Just watching this DM interview with the Echo from last year, where he's talking about coming in the first time around and needing to move on older players in order to get younger, hungrier ones in.

So not quite sure why he'd be signing a bunch of expensive pensioners this time around.

Thought it was quite a positive, forward-looking sign that we finally saw Ndiaye, Alcaraz and McNeil play together yesterday.

So do we reckon Beto is sticking around or was that just expediency / him in the shop window?

Think we need two strikers in personally. Delap didn't seem to do a whole lot tho, apart from annoy Jarrad..

Mate, it was his modus operandi last time as BK could only guarantee him £5m pa for players - he had to wheel and deal to go over that.

Totally agree. We shouldve wont that game ofc, but there are still lots of positives to take away from it. I hope we get to see more of Alcaraz, Ndiaye and McNeil rotating behind the striker. With time and familiarity, i think they can become a really good attacking trio.
