Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Pep was always always always about system over player, it's why he didn't really mind losing Samuel Eto, Ronaldinho, and why his core at Barca had grown up in a system at Barca - only exception really was Messi who was just so out of the normal that he could show that individuality and pep couldn't stifle it.

Arguably Ferguson was very similar btw if you think about Rooney etc.

And let's be fairs Grealish probably needs to be centre of the game plan to flourish. And while he's brilliant, he's just not that great that you'd sacrifice all those other world class players for.

He was brilliant for them in their treble season though. It would honestly be akin to getting Beckham or Giggs or whatever, fair enough on their late 20s.

Ibra, Eto, Ronaldinho, Foden, Grealish.

He's renowned for wanting players to play a very very specific system regardless of individuality mate.
Hes gotten rid of a lot of good footballers yeah, but it's very mixed results on how they've faired afterwards. Sometimes it's a clash of styles and other times he can just see when they've not got it anymore but almost always the team is better afterwards.

For every Ibra, Etoo or Toure there's a Schweinsteiger, Sterling, Ronaldinho or Deco that's just never the same afterwards. But for us it likely doesn't matter either way why its not worked out
