My take…..
We have targets, we have money…. Unfortunately we are not an exciting prospect for players as we currently can’t offer European competition. A few of our targets will understandably wait as long as they can before committing to a club so they can evaluate all of their options. That’s what I would do anyway.
I personally don't see whats the fuss. I look at the league and although we may be on the low end, aren't that far off in completed signings to our counterparts. The extensions and Charly option weren't a given, we re-signed the most important.
But beyond that its the profile of who we have signed and who we have been chasing that makes me more than willing to wait out. For the first time in like 10 years we are circling the right profile in deals. Prospects from across the continent with a growth plate, with good pedigree at fair price points. And the veterans rumored (or that we re-signed) logical in regards to transfer fees. Simply put the club may not be getting deals as quickly across the line but they are demonstrating competency, aspiration and good scouting in who they are showing interest in.
I for one remember the doubts in so many completed deals in previous windows. A signing isn't innately a good thing, a good one is. Of course it would be nice if more players could have had preseason reps, of course it would be great if players innately wanted to be Evertonians but thats just not that realistic to the variables at play.
The club, by all leaks are chasing really smart deals. That makes a lot of them possibly unlikely. But in no way should that approach change even if the seasons about to start.
