Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

At least half a dozen clubs could say ‘they want HOW MUCH for branthwaite?!’ after watching him against them last season. Young players sometimes don’t have great games, who knew.
How many players in the world play well in every match at that level.

I bet you could have seen a poor match by prime Messi. Some people would have decided based on that match he's not all that and Everton shouldn't sign him even he wanted to come.

Give me 10 Ndiayes and they’ll decimate a team of speed merchants.

Until they lose the ball. So much of the game is in transition now. If there’s a ball down the channel in the derby and Ndiaye and Frimpong are in a race who wins and therefore gets possession? How about the other way, ball over the top and it’s Salah v Mykolenko? Winning your races is a basic and there’s not many Everton players you back in a foot race v anyone.

Back in 13/14 we had Baines Jagielka Distin Stones Coleman McCarthy Barkley Mirallas and Lukaku who were all rapid. Now we’ve got Beto and that’s about it, we’ve actually lost some pace with DCL and Doucoure leaving.

I’m all for adding pace, but speed without ability is basically a team of Adama Traores and Demari Grays.

Also your example is a poor one. Myko seems to do quite well against Salah for some reason.

Defenders will always lose if they have to turn first. That's not how you play the game in the first place. Otherwise your defenders would need to be quicker than the quickest wingers in the league. And where do you find a winger quicker than Frimpong? Fullback quicker than Salah?

Tactically if your wide players are much slower you stop opponent from making those passes or drop deeper. And your centre backs should offer cover.

One very interesting take on all this.

Moyes has been publicly complaining about recruitment. He's also on record saying he wanted a mix of experienced premier League proven and oh some young potential.

He deliberately played down Aznou the other day as being first team ready - without even a training session etc.

So maybe Moyes has been pushing the older players, the recruitment team has some time trying to get those deals over the line but are obviously more difficult "Luiz, Grealish" type deals instead of certain others.

And maybe him moaning has got them to focus now on the deals they have had on hold, be funny if Moyes moaning ends up with the recruitment focusing on the players he'd rather not use as they aren't premier League proven though.

We need both, that’s the problem, players that have both usually cost top dollar. I didn't consider Gordon that good a player but because he was rapid and had a bit of technique he was snapped up.

Mykolenko does well v Salah because we sit deep against Liverpool which is really our only possible tactic v top teams because we don’t have the pace across the park to take the game to them. If we opened up and played a high line we’d be destroyed. If fans want to see Everton not ceding the initiative in big games b top teams then we need quicker players all over the park that can compete.

O'Brien, Branthwaite, Ndiaye, Alcaraz the first two are rapid mate.

We added Aznou and Barry - both also very fast.

What makes it more interesting is how long is moyes realistically gonna be here....

It’s an improving picture for sure. We need some proper pace in midfield. Garner Gueye as a two will leave gaps. We saw under Dyche in the derby how Onana and Doucoure for all their limited technique put it about and knocked Liverpool around. Luiz would certainly be an upgrade in that position if we could get that over the line.
