Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

….i think Thelwell was effectively shown the door. I don’t think he ‘left’, he wasn’t offered a new contract when his old one expired.
Yep, and as one of the biggest admirers of his work, people need to get over the Thelwell stuff.

History will be on his side for much of what he did here, but we got new owners and a new manager and he didn't fit the new structure. Equally, whether you like him or not, there is a slight trend away from the DoF model anyway now.

Whichever way you dress it up and whichever side of the Thelwell debate you're on, he didn't leave of his own volition, he simply wasn't offered a new contract because there was no place for him in the new way of thinking. Whether that was a mistake or not is far too early to judge.

I reckon this all boils down to money. We used to offer big wages which was why we attracted players, now we’re trying to chase decent players but aren’t offering the big money. Most players don’t give a sh** about European football, they will go for the money.

I wonder if Thelwell and Moyes didn't work well together which is why he decided to move on. It's been reported that Kev had targets lined up last Jan and Moyes said no, he also wasn't super keen on Alcaraz.
I have to assume that going in to this summer, Thelwell and Purdy had a list of targets, and part of me thinks Moyes wasn't on board with their direction which is why they both left.
That put us behind in timeline terms as we had to switch and identify new targets.
We also waited too long to make decisions on retaining or releasing players.
Maybe I'm wrong, just my opinion on why the window seems like we're slow to move.
I heard.... Shhh.... That all Thelwell's targets came from Zat... That's why Zat's got a cob on with Moyes.

If what we are being told is true and we need to fill out our squad and money is an issue, we could do a lot worse than go and get Hackney and Brownbill, one on a free the other at a very reasonable price, both decent players as fillers, at the very least it would increase our squad numbers instead of waiting for players who may or may not come.
Perhaps though it is well known that we are in for Luiz and so Hackney/ Brownhill want to see the outcome of that so they can decide if they are getting close to 1st team football next season

Yet to make a signing since Moyes rant.

His next press conference will be interesting…

The apparent 30/35 million fee ceiling is probably because we wanna sign a few in that price range, and we need that many players in total.

At the start of the window I always had in my head (based on amortisation and fees are paid on the drip) we'd spend purchase roughly

3 x players in the £30 million region

And then a few sub 10 million players

Then top the squad up with loans

So so far we've got 1 of the 30s in and a couple of sub 10s in.

Personally I don't think money is an issue for TFG per se the issue is the amount of players needed and the increasingly apparent incompetence of those trying to close the deals.
