Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

The Branthwaite issue is a big one. In an ideal world we 100% keep him, but, hes pure profit for psr, whereas players bought in are amortised over their contract term.

Its going to be a really interesting summer. I dont mind an additional years contract for gana and doucoure if it means we spend more on fewer players.
If we lose too many players, then we are going to be buying 7-10 average players.

The notion that we have 150-200 million to spend, and clear out the whole squad and replace with plenty of high quality players simply is not going to happen.
I admit to not being fully sure of this opinion but I think its worth discussing, if Doucoure was a free agent with no ties to us would we consider him over other options also on a free. For starters I believe he is the clubs current highest weekly earner at a reported 130,000 a week. He at this current state is not worth more than 50, but something tells me that we aren't likely to go under that if he's extended.

Cut that with other free agent options akin to his traits/position (of course they may have no interest in Everton but it's worth discussing) Josh Brownhill at Burnley, Anguissa from Napoli both 29 to Doucoure's 32, essentially a full contract younger, I'd argue considerably better than him. I doubt either make 25k more on the weekly to our hypothetical Doucoure offer sheet.

I know we are having this discussion a week away from him rescuing 3 points at Forest, I think its equally notable he was truly awful for 90+ minutes of that match. And the season totals are what they are 3 goals and an assist. Even with all the ancillary workrate stuff he does that return is what it is.

The point of just the amount of additions needed and thus holding onto to him has merit, and of course free agents get to exercise their suitors more than anyone so its not a totally fair comparison to examine him to other expirings. But Doucoure is fringe replacement value at this point, has some shifts that make me want to pull my eyes out. I just dont know if I want to be in that business with him at 34 even with the amount of variables and holes we enter this summer with.

I’m a little terrified for this summer, a big mess of contracts to sort or replace and judging by the financial losses of the last 2 seasons, not much room to fix it.

We will need to replace much of the exiting free agents with other clubs free agents and Moyes is not known for being quick and decisive in the window, he’s got to get it right but he can’t afford to leave it late.

Haven't Southampton been asking for big money? Sure I saw 70 million mentioned somewhere.

Cherki is becoming a weird one. Talented, young and a few seasons behind but nobody has taken the plunge yet. Wonder if there is an issue?

They were quoted at £100mil for Dibling. Just the usual ott kenwrightesque posturing.

Cherki wasnt the biggest fan of tracking back and was moved across multiple midfield roles. Managers, coaches and senior players seemed to be trying to give him advice and although he'd been decent there was a bit of a drop off last season bur its seemingly all come together now.

United and others have tried to get him in the past but been rejected and/or quoted huge fees.

Got into the England team when he was last with us. We need at least one CB even if we don't sell JB, but not a starter. Would be a good backup/rotation/experience option if his level is still where it was. 32 is not too old, and he wasn't a player who replied on his pace, so his age shouldn't be an issue.
Come on now he's worse than Keane and I don't say that lightly

Geordies in for JB.
