I wouldn’t say panic, but it’s obvious there’ll be no more signings for a couple of weeks. The squad and management fly off to the States tomorrow so no business will be done until their return. If a player was signed he’ll miss the pre-season training and the pre-season matches and we’ll have the excuses ready for a poor start to the season by saying the players missed pre-season! It worked every other season.

Pretty sure planes exist as do telephones mate.

It was the moment it became clear we weren't making anymore signings before the US tour, as it means we're now a couple of weeks (minimum) away from our next signing of note

God I hope not. I hate that diving little rat. He's not even very good either. Praying he goes abroad so I don't have to look at his stupid horrible face again.

Yeah, that team they had was Champions League standard

Di Maria, Saviola, Ramires, Pablo Aimar, David Luiz, Javi Garcia who ended up at City I think, Luisao who played 40 odd times for Brazil, Fabio Coentrao who went on to play for Real Madrid - weakest player in the team was probably the current Man Utd manager

And then you look at that back 4 we had out. Miracle we only shipped 5 really

Cardozo upfront as well. The next summer half of them went to Chelsea and half went to Madrid.

We really did run into some top teams under Moyes:

Sporting Lisbon with Moutinho, Veloso, Izmailov

Standard Liege: Defour, Witsel, Mbokani, Dalmat


Even the Fiorentina and Zenit teams we played were pretty handy. All of those except for Villareal were in the uefa cup as well. There’s been easier CL runs than some of that lot.

Does Granit Xhakas move to Sunderland open the door for Dan Neil to make the move to Everton? some seem to think so, we were linked with him back in January, he has a year left on his contract, so perhaps Sunderland will want to sell him this summer before he walks for free next year.

You’d have to think there’s something amiss with him if Sunderland are the only takers. If he’s still at the level he was when he left Arsenal for Leverkusen then surely there’s no way that Sunderland is his best offer.

What’s the deal with Xhaka? Because I think he’s a really good player. Loves to do something stupid, but unless his legs are gone, that’s a really good signing for Sunderland.

I'll eat crow if I'm wrong, but I think that's an awful fit for him unless they plan on having the ball 60% of the time each match.

22nd July and we’re reminiscing about old games we got battered in while our squad of 16 senior players plus a gang of kids jets out on a pre season tour tomorrow. Lovely stuff.

Is it really time to panic? Not sure tbf. For me if someone asked me would you be happy if come the end of July we had signed Alcaraz, a back up goalkeeper and Barry I wouldn't have been all that happy. The USA tour basically implies that no bussines will be done at least until August 10. Not looking that great taking into account that the first league game isn't to far away. We desperately need a winger and the state of our bench is terrible.

I feel like the fact that we no longer have a director of football doesn't help the cause one bit. Not a fan of this new system.

The current outcome of what they are doing may play out that way but I don't think that's their plan, at least not deliberately.

They have their strict caps on wages and then they'll know what they can spend from a much larger budget than previous seasons.

Players saying 'no' from a higher calibre of player pool than last years window, then needs either a giant leap of faith to go to other top targets and give them time to decide or go in for 4th,5th,6th choice now who may be adequate but not much better than what we have. Numbers needed absolutetly but those 1 or 2 higher tier players we need in the middle and on the RW is it just for now worth the wait this time around?

The. data analytics they are using will throw up multiple candidates from an attribute pov. I doubt that ate lists were as long in multiple previous windows as we were starting our search at a lower calibre just to tread water.

I've said it in other posts, they will be judged on the window by us, but the owners are business people first and foremost. It appears unlikely aa much as there is no way to be certain, that they would want to fall at step 1 of their longer term strategy.
