The last example I can remember of us waiting to the last minute and getting a really great deal was when we got Lukaku. Is there a more recent example of a great last minute signing in late August?

We have seen that in recent years, signing players was easy, unfortunately it meant throwing money at clubs.
We paid Swansea 45m for Sigurdsson because it was clear Koeman wanted him at any price.
We probably overpaid by at least 15m.

Agreed, and even that transfer was an absolute saga with Swansea trying to rinse us for every last penny.

How many last minute signings have been flops? Fellaini was also a great last minute signing.

last year we had the likes of harrison and lindstrom to come in for ndiaye, who werent good but are at least premier league players
