When we ran out of money we did well to stay in the Premie League as the lowest spenders for years. There should be some credit to Kevin Thelwell for that.

Was something like $288m we lost on our “ big signings”

The fees were a problem but wasn’t to biggest problem imo

It was the contracts/wages

Everyone stayed till the end as we were paying them astronomical wages which they couldn’t find elsewhere

Sandro was another although he didn’t cost much in fee

Bernard was on massive wages too

It could be that Charles is on his way to us... or it could be that they met one another on holiday and got to know one another? At this stage, nothing is off the table.

There were some tentative links at the start of May.

I asked some mates who are Wednesday fans (he was on loan there last season) about him. They said he was probably their best player last season. Defensive midfielder but could also play centre back

Just looked him up. Southampton paid £10n for him from Man City a couple of seasons ago so doubt he’d be particularly cheap. 2 years left on his contract

I remember being astounded when we pulled that off. I’m still not quite sure how we managed it.

Signings of that calibre have been few and far between.

I think the only signing that’s wowed me to a remotely similar degree since has been Lukaku.

Shea Charles is another "utility" type I was referring to with Timothy Weah. He covers multiple positions. All that concerns me is why was he loaned out when Southampton had a Championship level squad last season? Surely they could have utilised him, especially over the likes of Flynn Downes?

Good player. But moving from Fulham to Everton might be seen as a sideways move seeing as they finished above us.

He’s leaving Fulham on a free, what makes you think he’ll be making a step up?

We were linked before he moved to Southampton.

The amber flag is that Southampton sent him on loan rather than using him. However, they also did the same with Alcaraz.

Looks a decent ball winner and when he receives the ball seems to drive forward or pick a forward pass...per youtube.
