I get it, who doesnt want a spare Striker on the bench, it makes total sense, if we had a good first team.
Also, it’s fans who have moved on from Dom, not the club. When have we gotten any indication that he isn’t considered an integral part of the best XI? It’s been the complete opposite for multiple seasons. I don’t think it’s smart, but it’s reality until the club deviates from that.

I think part of the issue with the fans is that we are in the dark.

The club is damned if they do, damned if they dont regarding that.

"Dom is fit and ready to play", breaks down in training, club look like tits.
"Dom isnt ready to play games yet", fans get angry.

We need somebody to take the pressure off the issue.

Like a new owner?

Thing is, we wouldn't go into a season (let alone multiple seasons) with sole reliance on an injured player for a specific position (exception see Coleman at RB pre Patterson). We have to have a contingency around the single point of failure not being fit. See Begovic for Pickford or even Keane for Mina last year. However no-one in their right mind can see Maupay for DCL as an acceptable solution.
