Via @JamesOlley - Everton is now in pole to recover Danny Welbeck, free this summer. The player wants to find a club that has the ambition to play the Champions League. The Toffees are ready to offer him an increase in his current salary, £ 100k a week.

I think (hope) this is just lazy 2+2 journalism. He is EXACTLY the kind of player I would have imagined we'd be linked with from the Moyes era to before last season, but nothing about that signing would fit Brands's strategy. If we signed him I'd be fuming, not because he's a terrible player (he's not), but because it's bad business and a break from a strategy that has pretty much only just been announced!

Absolutely no point if this is true. He is 29 years old and is average and we have Digne as starter. Just keep Baines as back-up.

Maybe Baines is off or hesitating on s new deal. Creswell isnt great but if cheap, better than paying big money on a LB who wont start. Maybe they just want short term cover as someone is coming through??
