This is the same old garbage we had with Moyes. Buy in some adequate (no better than that) squad fillers and aim to be best of the rest. While the teams we are looking to catch aim to have two quality players in every position we load up on this dross and can't understand why we never (or very rarely) finish any better than "the best of the rest". We still lack ambition, sadly.
Well no. At right-back we have two very promising players (one of which is a CB) to provide that 'depth' when Seamus is out. They'll get their chances and hopefully take them.
Issue is, as Seamus is out for six months, we shouldn't be going into a season (which could be very very busy) with two 20-year-old full-backs, one of whom has a huge 70 minutes of game time in the Premier League...
So instead of bucking Kenny's progression with a 'huge' signing, it's surely sensible to get in a player the manager knows and trusts (on a free) as back-up to both Kenny and Holgate?
I don't think this is a case like Cleverley's, where Martinez viewed him as the answer to our playmaker issues...
